I'm using my powers for good, not evil, and opening this back up...

PropStop- why not Navy Fed? I've heard good things about the VA Choice program.

Propstop: never heard a response about this. I'm curious why you weren't for them. They're APR seemed to be .5% point lower than USAA. Or do they make up for it in the closing costs (I kind of doubt that)?

I used Navy Fed's veteran's choice program. It smells and looks just like a VA (no money down, yada yada) but isn't - which means you can keep the house and rent it out when you PCS and still have a VA loan available to you if you need it...
(and their handling fees, if memory serves, were 1% cheaper than VA).

USAA's referral system was great, and I swear by them for insurance, but the NFCU loan was just cheaper in the longrun. In addition to a lower fee than the VA, they had USAA beat on the rate.

Thanks for the info, Kolja. I was talking to one of the O-4s tonight at a hail and farewell. Everyone jokes how she's a slum lord because she owns a bunch of properties. She was saying it was pretty complicated to get approaved, as they gave her the runaround since she had other properties in her name. She did say that for a first timer like me, it was probably more straight forward. Plus I understand it's a Credit Union and not an expensive broker, so service is going to vary.
