There will always be a need to fill cockpits while we still have them. We have to replace those who are getting out. There will be slots next year. How many? Maybe about as many as there were this year.Right now I am leaning towards telling my OSO I will wait until next years boards start and apply for the 10 week PLC course. I can also be on the first board this way since I won't have any waivers to deal with etc. plus my PFT will just get better anyway. My only concern right now is with downsizing... Will there be any pilot spots next year? If I got stuck with ground I will sure wish I would have taken the NFO Spot.

No idea about the Navy thing.
I don't want it to come across like I'm not happy that I'm an NFO. I've had fun and it's opened up a lot of doors for me once I get out. Again I can't speak for WSOs, but what ECMOs do, while often misunderstood and unappreciated, is still important and relevant. Unfortunately it's no longer something you can plan on doing for your entire career.

If you want to be a pilot why not apply to several services? I have worked with guys that applied to USN, USMC, and USAF at the same time.
remember that any board is just a snapshot at that moment, a person that might be middle of the road one board could be top in another, or bottom in yet another.

I am pretty stuck on flying for the marines, the only other branch I would really consider is the Army and I called them today to ask about how the officer programs work, I would probably do OCS although WOFT seems rather attractive as well. Something about attack helicopters just click with me.
Last I heard no service can guarantee a platform, if you go marines what if you get prop, or go army and get blackhawks or kiowas?
I am sure some of the guys here can point you in the direction of a site for army pilots to get the read deal from them.
That is true, you do never know. But I guess what I am meaning is I want a shot at my dream. Not to just give up on it. The army has the best rotary choices though, and I also have heard they fly way more.
Give it a shot, I would find and ask some army pilots what their flying schedule is like, I do know that in the past 6 weeks we are know getting several phone calls a week from army pilots trying to switch to USN, variety of reasons.
I might try that, I know a few army pilots.
