yeah, my friend in the Army just got promoted to 1LT. She said the Army standard is 18 months, instead of the 24 months for the USMC (and everyone else, as far as i know)

The 18 months is actually "for" everyone. Congress passed that change back in 2002 (or maybe it was the end of '01). It's just the Army (as far as I know) that decided to actually use it. I guess it goes along w/ the GWOT/Gay pride thread that's being discussed here as well.

The Coasties I talked to said they get JG in 18 months as well.

I have no idea. I think there are some Coasties here on the site... maybe they'll chime in for you.
