WHAT THE HELL is the SECNAV thinking? Probably motivated by $$$$. Its kind of ironic that Gabby was against firearms, then gets a WARSHIP named after her? I can certainly think of many more deserving US citizens that would be more deserving and display a true warriors ethos. SMH!!

Just the latest in a long line of blatantly political names stretching back to at least the USS Sam Rayburn and continuing with the USS Carl Vinson and too many others.

I thought at least Carl Vinson DID something for the U.S. Navy.

I dislike the idea just because I don't like ships being named after folks who are still alive. Otherwise, can't see why this is a big deal.

Oh, and that "Seth McFarlane character" comment... Pure class.

And he deserved a carrier named after him, in the same class as one of the Navy's greatest heroes and the man who led the allies to victory in Europe among others? Pretty weak justification for such an honor, almost as weak as the one for Giffords.

We need to go full former Royal Navy (minus the Queen Elizabeth, Prince of Wales, etc.) with the naming of our ships. Names like Illustrious, Victory, Invincible, Revenge, Ark Royal. No politics, just pure badassery.

Or go back to naming at least the carriers after battles.

I am sure at first there will be the USS Bill Clinton, the nice thing is that on that ship the CO can say that "no one is having sexual relations on that ship"

Interestingly, of the Presidents who have carriers bearing their names, Republicans outnumber Democrats 6 to 2 (only counting JFK once).
