I had a SWO on the Anzio.. Swore up and down it was named after a MOH Recipient.
Well, obviously scholarly pursuits were not his thing, or else he would have been a pilot!

No fucking way you're getting a SWO pin without "knowledges" on your ship's namesake.
Those are usually the board's "softball" questions.
I stand by my statement.
Most ships I've been on had stuff pertaining to the namesake in the wardroom, sometimes the mess decks as well. My first ship had a portrait of the namesake and his (posthumous) Navy Cross citation. KENNEDY and IKE had some some pictures and knickknacks (Ike's uniforms and such). NORMANDY had Overlord stuff all over the place. That SWO would have had to been blind as well as an idiot.
On a different tangent, LT Murphy is the first Penn State alumnus to receive the Medal of Honor. The Class of 2011 is funding a veterans' plaza on campus in his name.

Oh, I'm not saying you're wrong.
You'll always have SWOs who qualified on a different ship, helo guys stopping by for DLQs, and other visitors who are all pretty likely to be clueless by then.
