VFA-103 bones

I'm just an enlisted guy....but why does this shit get taken so seriously sometimes??!! Its so funny, good for morale, and honestly its a good time (it seems)...Somebody above my pay grade please explain to me why people get so bent out of shape over this prank shit?

I was talking to my Senior Chief about this 103 incident and he told me a story about when he was in 105 and him and his shop stole 37's "Bull Head"...well apparently "his" command didn't think it was funny and he actually went to XOI for it...the only reason he didn't go to mast was because VFA-37's CO called 105's CO and stopped his cruxifiction. Whats the deal? Its all in good fun, so why do people get ass puckered over dumb ass competition pranks that have been going on for years? My Senior Chief said that the problem was that he was enlisted....and that one on one everyone up and down the chain would tell him how funny and awesome it was but as soon as it was in public around other khakis, they would lay the pipe to him. Whats the deal?

They are having flashbacks to their elementary school playground where they got beat up frequently and had their lunch money stolen.:)

I remember watching things like that as a kid, my Dad was in VFA-15 and they had a couple flags that were taken by the guys from their sister squadron 86. They sent a ransom tape and everything...pretty funny stuff...the poor LTJG who lost track of the flags though
Yeah, if you lose the flag, you are going to have hell to pay.

Harrier Dude

Living the dream
We had a cement bulldog in the squadron that the junior officer had to bring with him to all squadron events and maintain accountability for at all times. He locked it in a cruise box when we changed ships in the Med (long story) and some chopper jockey stole it.

The 53 squadron that held it ransom took it all over Iraq and took many pictures of it in the air, on the ground, and in all manner of settings. The pictures they sent were pretty funny. I think we had to buy them a keg or something to get it back.

These things are funny, build esprit, and encourage pride in your unit. It's all in good fun.

Anybody that takes this shit to office hours or anything worse needs to learn to take a joke. Life's too short to be angry about everything.

oh yeah there was hell to pay, the guy already had it pretty bad anyway but this was just fuel to the fire...it was all settled with a couple cases of beer in exchange for the flags

Yesterday, retrieving VT-21s tailhook from VT-22 (who ripped it off our wall) we had to wrestle, and at one point I had a hinge in a headlock. Nobody gave a shit here.

Any day you can fly, and put a dirty hinge in a headlock, and get away with it is a good day.

Bring that shit to me.

Btw, wmf-taff says "yo".

My crew acquired a giant model Nimrod from Kinloss in '01 after Burns Supper. The limeys were not pleased.
COMFAIRKEF was dialed vfr-direct. I last recall the model doing shots in the Brass Nut. Good times.
Mascot shenanigans rock.

Best retaliatory strike after a mascot-napping:

stole all the seats off their shitters. You have never seen a squadron be brought to its knees faster.

All this is NOTHING compared to the story of the Tirpitz Bulkhead:

http://www.association.9sqn.co.uk/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=9

There is mention of that page of a Vulcan bomber making a diversion to another airfield as part of a plan to hijack the bulkhead. The following, from another forum, includes some more detail on this incident:

"A 9 Sqn crew on a UK ranger from Cyprus nicked the bulkhead from 617, crated it and had it transported to Wittering via the stores empire for 'collection' by 9 Sqn reps. When 617 found the bulkhead missing, they tore off to Waddington and stopped the ac from starting until they searched every inch of the airframe. They then escorted it to the runway to make sure it wasn't loaded prior to t/o.

The captain declared a PAN and diverted to Wittering. He didn't stream the chute even though he was considerably overweight [he was fuelled for non-stop to Akrotiri]. He had exceeding hot brakes after the landing run. After the bulkhead was loaded in the pannier, the crew chief declared the 'problem' that caused the PAN call fixed and they legged it to Akrotiri.

Some years later, after the Sqn returned to Waddington, the bulkhead was bolted to their crewroom wall. A raiding party, including the Scampton junior plod [service policeman], raided 9 in the middle of the night and jack-hammered the bulkhead off the wall and took it back to Scampton. 9 were enraged and descended on Scampton and scoured every inch of the station. Except, of course, the one place they were not authorised to enter under any circumstances - the nuclear bomb dump. Guess who had authorisation, though? The junior plod! And guess where the bulkhead was??!!"

Depends on the hinge. If I find him valuable... I give [a] shit...

So I was reading the story of Ens Jack Ernie and legend has it that those are actually his bones encased in glass. Like his no-shit skull and femurs! Is this true? Or am I about to look up the word 'gullible' in the dictionary to see if it's there?

Cruised in CVW-8 with VF-84 so briefed in their RR a bunch for MAS flights. Can't say they're Ens Ernie's but they're real bones.
