wearing of uniforms by civilians...

There have been many times where i was either walking down the street, in a mall or somewhere that people like to get all dressed up and I see some people wearing parts of military uniforms and I don't just mean MARPATS, BDU'S, ACU'S etc; I mean like the USMC's blue dress jacket (which is the most common), the Army i guess class A's (w/e they call the green jacket). And on them they have patches all over the place, sometimes like upside-down, ranks from other branches, rips, and other stupid things. Personally this angers the hell out of me :icon_rage because I feel they are degrading the value that the uniform carries and disrespecting all of those that wear the uniform and that have passed away wearing that uniform.

So basically, I want to know if anybody else feels the same way about this or if not what your opinions are.

ABSO-FVCKING-LUTELY. Coming from LA this always pissed me off, and going on leave back to LA right after OCS, I was pretty livid a few times going out to clubs and seeing the sh!t. Totally disrespectful imho.

My first time on leave as a commissioned officer, I get dropped off in the NYC subway at midnight after a 6 hour drive, and what do I see? Some douche wearing a service alpha jacket with a pair of jeans. He'd unhemmed the sleeves because "they were too short for him".

I got a bit less nostalgic for home after that.

I have more important things to worry about than this I guess. Honestly, I don't really care... unless however, they are wearing it not as a "fashion" trend but as a "f-you" statement (which is probably rarely the case).

As for the "fashionistas": look at it this way...mimicry is the most sincere form of flattery...

Honestly, who cares? It's a piece of clothing. It isn't like they are trying to fake being the real thing. I used to laugh at kids wearing the old dungaree bell bottom trousers, who knew that I was on the cutting edge of fashion?

While I think it looks kind of silly, it doesn't really get under my skin as long as they aren't trying to impersonate a service member (which obviously isn't the case here).
