My school district growing up, faulty though it was in some ways, crushed this BS several times while I was in high school. One guidance counselor in particular (mine while I was there, actually), as my father related to me a few years ago, was fired when his personal agenda was found in conflict withe district. So much for your PhD, pal...

Wasn't the "God" part added in from the original in the 1950's? Didn't we get scared that the communist heathens were going to kill "God" unless we did something?

You learn something new every day. I can't believe that I've never heard that before. Regardless, I doubt that the majority of the opposition would classify their argument as a return the good ol days. We to horrifying thing in both the name of god, and the name of political correctness. This, despite the flimsy argument about them only wanting to prevent other flags, reeks of the latter to me.

Edit: And you're right, those heathen commie bastards were out to undermine everything!

It looks like the school has learned (much to their chagrin) where the line is drawn regarding the flag. Perhaps they should read Texas v. Johnson...
