For pleasure:

Runnin' with the Devil: A Backstage Pass to the Wild Times, Loud Rock, and the Down and Dirty Truth Behind the Making of Van Halen by Joseph Layden and Noel Monk

For learnin':
The Admirals: Nimitz, Halsey, Leahy, and King - Walter Borneman

Not at all surprised a book on the admirals wouldn’t include David Robinson or Zumwalt… 😹.

…Yea my packet isn’t getting OCS packet isn’t getting picked up …🫠

Van Halen is cool though.

Its just the four because the book only covers 5-Star Fleet Admirals

Skunk Works by Ben Rich -- a memoir of Lockheed's special projects division. A bit short on technical details that I like (and that are available elsewhere) but a nice overview.

It's been slightly slow-going for me as the dreaded age-related macular degeneration has hit my right eye pretty hard the last year or two. Grrr...

Got it— It’s hard for me to skip an opportunity to bring up Elmo Zumwalt. 🙃
(And anything sports related.)

How did the book contrast these figures, or is it just biography/service records?

Sounds interesting.

Might exist in an audio book?
LM has a *great* podcast called “inside skunkworks”— I highly recommend it… they’ve stopped producing new episodes, but that maybe changing soon… 🤞

Really enjoying this one thus far. Fascinating to see how the Navy got from WWII to where we are today.
I saw this on a bookstore shelf a while back and said "new Hornfischer book? Oh yes." But then I looked at it a little closer and said "the last Hornfischer book? Oh no."

I think his writing style was better suited to the narrower focus of his WWII books, but this was still quite interesting and I'm willing to cut him a little slack on account of having died in the middle of writing it.
