I really enjoyed reading Threat Multiplier by Sherri Goodman and America’s New Map by Thomas P.M. Barnett. Both books explore the role of climate change as a driver of instability and how it factors into national security strategy. I found their analysis compelling, especially the connections they draw between environmental stressors, geopolitical conflict, and migration.
That said, neither book is a particularly deep dive into these topics.
Does anyone have recommendations for books or authors that go further into the intersection of climate change, security, and geopolitics? I’m especially interested in works with a strong analytical or policy-oriented approach, whether from a military, environmental, or international relations perspective.

This is worth reading...published in 2019.
It is based on a New York magazine article published in 2017. Generated lots of controversy, as it is pretty doomist, but it also makes predictions that can be monitored to see if they are coming true. Worth reading book reviews of it from back in 2019 too.
Having the book written before the off-the-charts warming we've seen over the last two years, and are seeing again this year, gives a sense of foreboding, I have to say.
The book pulls the threads on how the changes force human migration, which leads to nationalism which leads to...etc.

On the SciFi side, I haven't been able to put this series down. I'm on my second read through as I'm waiting for Red God to be released. The series starts in a mine on Mars and builds to be something incredible that spans the entire solar system. I love the way the author details combat. Fall in love with characters at your own peril.

Everyone is told that the outside world is poisoned and bad. The thing about this series is that the outside world might actually be bad, and people may actually die as soon as they're exposed to it. So are the "bad guys" who are keeping society functioning actually bad?

It's an entertaining read and good for passing time but I've grown to hate pretty much every character.
I think Tapper is being unfairly pilloried on the left. I do, however, think the non-stop coverage on CNN of the book was WAY, WAY over the top to the point of being embarrassing. I listened to Tapper on on Sam Harris' podcast, and he makes a pretty good case, IMO. Biden should never have run in 2024, and many within his inner circle bear a lot of responsibility for obfuscating the truth. That said, I would rather have had another four years of a comatose Biden in the WH than Trump.
