Comedy is not pretty... :D

My stash job for three months was getting cut over to the museum to work as a static display guy upstairs at the F4F Wildcat display. Worked two days there and spent the rest "on my own recognizance." The museum guy who had gotten us on loan from Schools Command was a retired pilot and told us not to bother showing up except for our days we signed up for, not to call, and not to bother filling out leave chits for anything - just go do whatever we wanted and don't get killed.

Obviously this is before the new era of "weekend risk assessments."

I am enlisted right now.....While going to different schools there were times when I was on hold waiting to class up. During these times we were on barracks support and in 1st LT. cleaning and swabbing.

From different threads It seems that "on hold" for Officers is considered being stashed....I leave for OCS on 4 June as a SNFO....My question if I am "stashed " between OCS and API what will I be doing. Seriously doing...

Dude - no other time in your career as a Naval Officer will you get that much leisure time. Enjoy it. Work out, have fun, enjoy the Pensacola bar scene - you will be issued a list in student control of the schedule for Ladies Night in the entire NW Florida/Southern Alabama area. Enjoy it - seriously. :)

It depends where you're doing your "time". Ensigns were not worth very much when I was "pooled"/stashed, if you will ..... and they weren't gonna let us go to the beach, either. If you're any good at sports -- check into what might be available for the season and time you are "stashed" -- I was fortunate enough to play baseball during the summer for the Navy @ Pensacola -- the station team -- not intramurals. Turned out to be a VERY good deal and we played against some of the Florida panhandle and south Alabama/Mississippi colleges as well as some Air Force teams --- it got us out of a lot of miscellaneaous make-work C-R-A-P that the other guys had to do .... but lots of "volunteer" jobs are available ... depends on the location.

When the season ended, I volunteered through NAMI for the centrifuge -- big mistake. They spent the next four weeks trying to get me sick. Taught me to be very circumspect of volunteering for anything ..... :)

Amen.

I haven't been doing JACK for the past month and a half while waiting for Primary. Sure, I've been doing a little studying ahead (well, a LOT of studying ahead), but I've been pretty much just relaxing. Why?

After nine years, I've learned that time like this - where you are paid good money (plus flight pay) to show up to work for 10 minutes each week - are few and far between. (Okay, time like this doesn't exist anywhere else in the military.)

I'd take another six months of this if they would let me! :icon_smil

Early 1980's: Phone muster from my brother's house in California on M, W, F for 4 weeks. After I wore out my welcome - phone muster from my grandparent's house in Hawaii on M, W, F for 4 weeks.
Man, those days are OVER, caller ID killed that one. It's all in cycles, hopefully you will be there when the pools are doing the phone muster thing, until some guy/gal pulls this stunt now-a-days, and check in from god knows where, and gets told "be here in 30 minutes we are putting together a working party"... then the knee jerk reaction and EVERYONE has to muster in person because of one person's "let's get away with as much as I can" attitude... New Navy love for you HAL, unless some current A and C poolers want to correct me.

As others have put it, ENJOY that time off, golf, beach, you name it, have fun. I think Steve was just smokin crack, and maybe he is just too dang "diggit" and didn't get the Never Again Volunteer Yourself out of his system at Great Mistakes, eh Steve? Think I remember you first man, first squad at muster, roger'n up to any make do, busy work... now me, on the other hand, trying to act inconspicuous in the back row and succeeding... man, the BEST my golf game has EVER been.... sniff... can I go BACK???????!??!?!

Right now A poolers muster every day in person. Most of the time this is done in PT gear, but some days its done in uniform. C poolers are on the "big boy" program and get to phone muster every day except Thursday, when they have to physically be at muster.

The bubbas who are in the Primary and Advanced pools at Whiting call in Monday - Thursday, and muster for about 10 minutes at 0700 on Friday in pajamas. It's pretty skate.
