Hey all-

I was wondering if anyone had any firsthand info, good or bad, about the Springfield XD 9mm, especially as compared with the Glock... The price is about right for what I can afford to spend...

Thanks!

I just bought the XD40.... I pick it up tomorrow. I plan on putting a few hundred rounds through it. I will let you know what I think of it.

As far as what I've heard... I've heard that it is a very reliable and accurage weapon. And it is a springfield, so expect great customer service and warranty work. From all reviews, it seems to be an excellent purchase.

Hey, I shot the XD40; what a wonderful gun. Accurate as hell, easy to break down and clean, just an over all very nice weapon.

Is there any reason you are thinking 9mm over a 40cal? <Gotta throw my pitch in> If you buy ammo in bulk <which you should> there is no significant difference in price; but there is a significant difference in stopping power; just think about it.

i was looking at used xd40's and really like it, and the price isn't too bad I don't think. I don't really have any experience with pistols though, so is this a good starter or not? thanks!

Depends on what you want out of it... it's a great pistol... as far as for a starter.. it is easy to clean, operate and it is accurate...

But ammo is expensive...

If you want to shoot alot, consider a .22.... you can fire about 10 times more for the same price; the basic technique in pistols is the same no matter what you shoot.

I'm a big fan of the 40 S&W as well. I have a glock model 22 and love it. If I had to do it all over again I would get the Glock 29C (10 mm with compensator).

Not anymore than you would want to be in front of my 22. That is an advertisment that I put up in humor....

I know man, I'm just messing with you. :)

I have both a 9mm and a .40. I prefer my 9mm because I can shoot it faster and more accurate. I do love shooting .40 though, so snappy.

I would LOVE a 10mm.

The best pistol I ever shot (accuracy, comfort, pure satisfaction ...) was the Kimber Ultra CDP. Bought it several years ago and the only gripe I have is that to break it down you need a tool (small piece of bent metal). Other than that, I'd put it up against anything ...

That's a 1911 design for yah. So antiquated. So good.

That's why a 1911-A1 is the only pistol I'll ever own. I am looking at Springfield's version they call the "GI .45 1911-A1". I shot one a few years ago and that was the sweetest pistol I have ever shot.

It's not perfect. Browning knew this. That's why he invented the Hi-Power. :)

Personally, I've shot a couple 1911 variants, and I've shot a SIG P220. I like 1911s, in fact, I want that same GI 1911 that Springfield has, but when it comes to a comfortable, reliable, dead-accurate .45, I'm going with the P220.

You may ask my solution to this problem. The answer is: Buy Both. :)

You all need to step up to the HK family of .40 S&W's. As long as you have the basics of shooting down, HK makes fantastic handguns.

I got the XP2000, great gun, but I also recommend the USP

I scoff at you for implying that H&K is better than SIG. *nose up in air*

I would love an H&K actually, but they're too damn pricey. I might look into a used one. Hopefully their new factory here in the states will drop their prices too, but we'll see about that.

It's too bad they discontinued their USC carbine. I heard it was pretty fun.
