It's too early to tell without taking the ASTB. Take the ASTB and report back with new stats to help us help you.

Hi everyone! This is my first post. I am currently active duty navy as an AWR. I am pursuing a commission for Intel Officer. A little background on me...

School: The Ohio State University (graduated SP 2014)

Degree: Security and Intelligence Studies (major GPA 3.7; overall GPA 3.5)

LOR: Carrier Air Wing (CAGAI) Intel officer, retired LCDR Navy Seal, etc...

I will be taking the OAR in sept. I've been working with intel officers on my base, along with our admin officer, and CCC to get my package up to par. Just waiting on OAR and interviews.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Just took it (August 4, 2017)
MATH: Three main things: Know how to do multiple conversions. Know how to solve multi variables. Practice word problems.
READING: Pretty straightforward, it will be easy to identify and eliminate two. Remember a time restraint. Do practice tests with timers.
MECHANICAL: Know your formulas: Potential/Kinetic Energy, Work, and Rate. Know basic mechanics: pulleys, levers, and electricity.
(I have no background in Physics and managed to do alright)

The OAR is kinda low as is the GPA. Typically for Supply you want a 3.4+ along with a 50+ OAR to give a good first impression to the boards. From there you can show off LORs and any extra items listed on the APSR. You have to remember Supply is competitive with selection rate typically around 10-15%. You also have individuals with MBAs or BS/STEM degrees from top-notch schools and with very competitive GPAs.

I would say the odds are slightly against you but in the event you do not get selected for Supply to either consider retaking the OAR and improving and/or applying for easier programs like SWO.

Thank you for your honesty! The minimum OAR for SWO is 45 while the minimum for Supply is 35. So wouldn't that mean SWO is more difficult? Furthermore, I have 195 credits, it'd take another full year of college, full course load, and a 4.0 to bring it to a high 3.3/3.4. I can't pull anymore loans (presently at $40k). I understand all these things are against me, but do you think I should turn in my package? Or would I just be wasting my time and theirs?

No one is telling you not apply but rather your stats are a bit short of what the boards are looking for when it comes to supply. Yes SWO has a higher MIN OAR score but they also have higher quotas which in return allows way more folks get selected to SWO than supply. Swo has roughly a 50-60% selection rate, supply around 10-15% if you're lucky.

My suggestion if you don't get picked up for supply is either retake the OAR and/or consider applying for swo.

Additionally, for @MVPDelarmente because your stats aren't the best, you need to consider: "Do I want to be a Supply Officer or do I want to serve and be a Naval Officer?". There isn't a right or wrong answer to this because it's your application and your choices, but if your answer is the former I would strongly recommend considering the latter. You can always apply Supply/SWO first and second choice as a backup in case you don't selected for Supply.

In addition to what I put and what RUFIO has said, for the longest time several designators that had the lowest OAR requirement had the lowest selection percentage, lowest number of billets available.

Hello. I recently discovered the thread and I decided that talking to some folks about specifics would help me get insight. I recently applied to an OCS board with NFO (July 2017) as my first choice and SWO (August 2017) as my second. I ended up being rejected from both boards. I'm determined to try again in 6 months as a SWO (looking back I only wanted to try NFO because my recruiter told me I was almost a shoe in). I was wondering what evolution I should put myself through before trying again.

STATS:
Cornell University, Bachelor of Arts: 3.81 in History and Government
OAR: 56, ASTB 5/4/5.

Extracurriculars: Highly active with the Cornell International Affairs Society (Basically the Model UN club) where I led simulations during conferences we hosted.

LOR: Supervisors from the Naval Historical and Heritage Center (CAPT Ret.), Council on Foreign Relations, A veterans outreach group run by a retired Combat Engineer, Hudson Institute, and a dining hall I used to work at. In addition, 2 professors I knew well (I was under the impression that the last 5 years of employment were required to send in letters).

Native proficiency in Korean and working proficiency in Spanish.

I was working with a recruiter up in Syracuse.

My OAR is 4 points below the average for those accepted by intel boards. I was wondering if anyone thinks my high GPA (despite it being humanities and not even polisci or international affairs or something intel-related) may offset this score. Are my chances decent?

I think it will! But that's just based off of what I've seen from others on this site. Your GPA is fantastic and your OAR score isn't bad at all either! But any one of the recruiters on this site may be able to give you a better answer than I can, more specific to intel.
