HQ as in it is in the front office awaiting your CO's review and signature or HQ somewhere else and you've already submitted your package to officer applications? I routed mine up my chain of command for my CO's endorsement on October 22nd and didn't get it back until Nov, 19. The good news that my recruiter did inform me about is that I didn’t even need a waiver.

Are you applying for the 25JAN21 board? I know there were rumblings of the deadline getting moved to 01DEC20, but was official word put out regarding that?
It’s in the office awaiting the CO's review and signature. Yes I am applying to the 25JAN21 board. I also do believe that the cutoff is on 01DEC20. I’ve had everything submitted to my recruiter 28OCT20 and it’s been in HQ pending review and signature since 02NOV20. The good news that my recruiter informed me about is that I didn’t need a waiver after all.

Good evening all,

I have been browsing for a bit, but this is my first post. Considering applying for Intel.
  • 32 years old; AD Marine SSgt (selected for GySgt); 11 years TIS; CI/HUMINT Specialist; currently serve as an Instructor at the CI/HUMINT Course (produce K13As).
  • B.A. Homeland Security completed while on AD (AMU). Graduated with a 3.9 but pre-enlistment college dropped my cumulative to 2.9...
  • OAR: TBD
  • LORs: Fleet N2 (O-6) and CO of Marine Corps Intel Schools (O-6)
OAR is a priority and I will be taking it soon. With that said, is it worth submitting for a GPA waiver? My other option is to continue with school (pursue a Masters?) to increase cumulative GPA, but significantly delays things. Any thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

I would try for a waiver, Intel is tough to get into however with your AD job that is a wild card factor, if you were some 22 year old kid just out of college I would say best to look at other designators.

Do what you need to do to qualify to apply; I personally would love to work with someone with your background in my community. Given your GPA, I would recommend you attempt to blow them away with your OAR, but otherwise literally everything else about your stats make me want to sit down for a few hours over coffee in a place we could talk.

Hey guys I would appreciate your honest opinion of my stats. I talked to a few recruiters and they said I should expect to be selected but not guaranteed. Seemed like similar scores got picked up on the excel sheets from past boards.

GPA: 3.5
ASTB: 63 7/7/6
Major: Mechanical Engineering
School: Ivy League

Do you guys think I should retake? The scores were my first attempt. I'm thinking of buying a joystick and using it in inverted aim trainers to help practice for it.

Just looking how I shape up here, talked to an officer recruiter already but they're generally hard to get a good vibe from. I graduated undergrad in 2018 with a GPA of 3.04 with a double major in public policy & administration and media arts & design, was relatively involved with extracurriculars (played water polo, was president of my social fraternity), worked full-time for a bit and then came back to school to pursue a master's in education which I will be finishing up in May of 2021, current GPA there is 3.94.

I am looking to pursue a career as an SNA, my only blemish is that I was charged with underage possession of alcohol twice earlier on in my undergrad years, but the charges were dismissed both times, so no convictions on my record. I am also working on getting back into pristine shape, I'm 6'1 and currently 215 lbs. but am swimming 2 miles a day and working on push-ups/sit-ups/running on top of that. I have some pretty good recommendations lined up as well (retired naval aviators, retired JAG captain).

The recruiter I spoke with seemed rushed to get me in in the next couple of weeks to take the ASTB, and while I have done some studying, I would like to be more prepared. He said he wanted to get me in to test so he could get me in front of a board in January and have me out to OCS by April or May, which seemed a bit off for me, as I obviously want to finish up my master's degree before I join. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TFA?

Hey all, been creeping around. Great advice from the recruiter lol. Want to gauge where I am/should be. So my goals are to become a Naval Aviator, whether it be USN or USMC. The points are what I would assume are the major points.

In Chronological Order:
  • ASVAB 90 (2014)
  • Enlisted USN (2014-2018)
  • Made E-5 from E-1 in two years
  • Deployment to gulf (2017)
  • Electrical Engineering student - Junior - 3.5 GPA(2018-Present)
  • MISDEMEANOR DUI - Everything is paid and no jail time served (2019)
  • Former VP of a University STEM Outreach Org (2019-2020)
  • Toyota Engineering Internship (2020 Summer)
  • Current IEEE Relations Officer - Electrical Eng. Org (2020-Present)
  • Burns and McDonnel Engineering Internship (2021 Summer)
  • Train Muay Thai (Didn't know they cared about sports)
  • 265 PFT (unofficial but done with ROTC group as trial)
As you probably noticed, I have not taken the ASTB yet. When I spoke to the recruiter(s) they said we will take it sometime past May. I already got a study book from Amazon and plan on borderline memorizing it and ensuring I study variations of those questions too. Absolutely DO NOT plan on taking it lightly.

Still have over 7 months before taking an official PFT, so I anticipate at a worst case scenario pushing that PFT score to 275ish, I mainly did shorter duration runs and Muay Thai rounds for cardio so I can definitely bump it up with time and hard work. The DUI speaks for itself BUT I will say that when it did happen, I put in full effort to make sure it didn't define me. That's when I started getting into school organization leadership, amazing internship opportunities, and started MT. Might as well say it but I am also a Hispanic from a single mother. Obviously the best candidate will and should get the seat but I figured I'd at least throw it out for some extra sauce. Thanks!

From everything I have seen in the last six months ALL and I mean ALL waivers that are not legal/criminal in nature are being entertained but the IWC. I agree with Glassbanger do what you need to do to get your application complete and in front of the board as soon as possible. 1830 is going to close out for the year so but when the boards reopen getting to the “at board” list is based on first come first serve.

ASVAB doesn't matter at least for the USN side, not sure if that has anything to do with the USMC side.

Everything you listed will be secondary to the ASTB. Sounds like you've got the right idea and a fair bit of good stuff going for you to offset the one negative, knock that ASTB of the park and you should be fine as long as the DUI doesn't hold you back for some reason. It might require a waiver but someone with more experience would need to chime in on that.

I would recommend finding ways to weave your positives into your story (motivational statement) in a concise way to paint a clear picture on why they should select you. Just looking at what you've listed I think you have a shot, just focus on that ASTB. Good luck!

So I have aspirations to become a Naval Aviator and I was wondering if I could get an honest opinion on my stats.

3.2 GPA in Architecture
OAR: 63
ASTB: 8, 9, 9
No flight hours or anything (I think the general consensus is that those don't matter?)

Applying for the May board
My concern is I am not in a technical major and my GPA isn't the best. But Im hoping my ASTB will outweigh that. Any opinions are appreciated
