What should I apply for????

Good Afternoon Air Warriors!!,

I am stuck in a bit of a bind. I will be graduating in 5 weeks and I'm a bit unsure on which designators I would like to apply for. My ultimate goal is to become a commissioned Officer in the United States Navy.

My original plan was to apply for the fall AMDO board but that has recently changed because of the possibility of the board being cancelled. I feel like this would be my most qualified option, but with the limited quotas and selection opportunity it is probably not going to work out.

I am currently working with a flight surgeon to find out the possibility for a waiver so that I can apply for the rolling Pilot/NFO boards. I would definitely love to fly!! I am also very interested any of the IDC programs because my degree is in the Computer Science field.

I transfer at the end of the year so this is my last chance to apply with my current command and CO.

Does anyone know what the recent selections rates for all of these programs looks like??
Also, what criteria of fleet applicants do they normally select??

My main concern is that I would like to apply for whatever designator for which I have the best chance for selection.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

To be competitive for aviation, I think you would need to retake and improve the ASTB. For SWO, your now average AOR, could use a boost of 5-10, to give you a decent shot, as SW has become very tight in the recent past.

The rest of your package looks pretty fine, especially your enlisted evals/promotion record. So, a good boost in a complete retest, would have you very competitive for anything you apply for, except specialty fields. If you don't have time to retest before the next boards, you can give it a shot, you never know!;)

It sounds as if your ideal situation would be for you to be a Pilot, if that is the case work towards getting cleared and in the meantime study for the ASTB so you can retake.

I have the feeling that if you submit and get picked up for something other than aviation you will wonder in the back of your mind "could I have been cleared?"

Thank you both for the inputs. I am going to keep pushing for the medical clearance. Until then I will continue to do whatever I can to improve my package.

On my current board sked there's 3 for the FY, with the next one taking place in June-July

One of the guys selected on the most recent board I guess has been talking with the AMDO OCM and was told they not only picked all this FY but also several alternates for FY14 that might be FY15 selects.

That's news to me, especially since one of my quotas/goals is to find a FY15 AMDO.

So should I continue to build/prepare my package for a possible AMDO board in June-July??

In your first post you said "I would definitely love to fly!!" until you get a yes or no on that I would wait, if you submit an application and then get a yes you can fly you have to wait for resolution on what you submitted. I will be honest, AMDO has a high age limit and very very low selection rate, if you can't fly and with your degree you would probably have a better shot at IDC.

I was pushing AMDO based off his enlisted background, but he does have a computer technology degree which could make him a good fit for either IW or IP programs.
