Since I'm going geo-bachelor, if there's no govt quarters available, then I'll get per diem to live out in town which could be anywhere from $70-$100 per day. You and red planning on sharing an apartment?

Is your family authorized to move with you? If so, and they choose not to you won't get Per Deim if the BOQ is full. It will be on your own dime.
 
It depends on how the orders are written. Do your orders authorize a PCS move or is it TAD? If a PCS move is authorized chances are nil to none you will get Per Deim if you choose not to bring your family. What a waste of govt funding that would be for the Navy to pay both BAH and per diem when it was your choice, not theirs not to move your family. In the 18 years I have been around the Navy and seen many people choose to leave their families and geo bach I have never seen anyone get per diem if they could not stay in the BOQ. They paid out of their own pocket. Will you be there 6+mo?
 
Of course, this is all dependent upon getting that spiffy little stamp on my orders that state that there are no govt quarters available.
 
That's why I asked if your family was authorized to move with you. :) Is the Navy using the TDY term now? Or are you a Marine?
 
No, I'm Navy. A duty station that is temporary duty under instruction for less than 140 days is considered TDY and per diem is authorized. And API is listed as 139 days. I should stop discussing this cuz someone is liable to see it and issue some ordmods.

I know I'll be there longer, but depending on exactly how and when they issue order extensions, I can keep on collecting. Speaking of that, no ordmods yet, so I'm still clinging to that Mar report date.
 
Got my orders yesterday... gotta be in pcola Feb 1st... there better be someplace to live!!! I won't be able to go househunting til the 17th of this month, which pretty much gives me about a month in advance to reserve a place... should I worry???
