No, I was pretty much kidding. But I will say that in my airline life, the USAF heavy guys and P-3 guys tend to have a Nutty when you are 251 or above when going through 10K. I guess they think that FAA ATC has a repeater of your KIAS tape on their scope. My experience is not only does ATC not care, they don't even know. (They used to see GS only, although now I think they may get a crude TAS...)

My NA# appears in three places in my house: On the back of my Wings; on the back of my motivated Battle Phrog mug ("No Hooks Needed"
); and a card (in the "passport" book, along with the CNAT card) that states,

THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT

IS A QUALIFIED HELICOPTER PILOT

It is neat to know my NA number, however, "I AM NOT A NUMBER! I AM A FREE MAN!"

I never got the holder.. I feel gypped.
I was an Air Traffic Controller until December 1st when I got picked up for the flying CWO program. The ATC scopes do get recorded (even the old Navy scopes) and the TAS is on there. They can calculate the distance a target has gone in an amount of time and be right on, I have seen it in incedent reports. I dont know about the FAA side, but Navy controllers generally like when the aircraft go fast unless they are given a speed restriction for sequence, and I have never known a controller to snitch on any pilot in the 8 years I have controlled. sometimes a real boring day in the tower can perk up after seeing a F18 going TOO fast into the break.
