31OCT22 SNA/SNFO BOARD

Are you dead set on having NFO as a possibility? If they're letting you reapply as SNA you could just send it and try for only SNA... you have the scores for it.... but, then again, I feel like either way the board might want to see some aspect of improvement on your application since you were non-select last time. So I guess that would make sense.

Idk, that's just my two cents from information I've gathered on here about resubmitting. Others might have more efficient advice for you.
Bro, I would take anything I'd get selected for. I think NFOs have cool missions, and I would be happy as an NFO. Pilot would be great too. I've applied for SNA with the USMC too, which leads to another issue... It would be pretty awkward for my Marine OSO to find out I took the ASTB again with the Navy and got different scores than what I told him. My chances for just SNA with the Navy are dicey, but not impossible. The USMC likes my ASTB. They just care about my 3 mile run/3:45 min plank times, pullups, community service, and an age waiver essay.

I’m pretty sure the rules are you either have to wait 6 months or make a significant change in your package to reapply to the same designator which could be why you’re being told to apply SNA instead of SNFO
I had no choice but to wait 6 months after Lasik before applying again. I also racked up a lot of volunteer hours (thanks to the USMC), but I don't know if that's adequate enough for the Navy.

Do you have any retakes left? If this was your first time I would retake. If you only have 1 shot, I think maybe resubmit and then if you get a PROREC-N again, study extra hard and retake.
So I took the test 3 times. First try was apparently a dud because the system went down in the middle of the test, then got rebooted, then I continued, and got embarrassingly bad scores. But when I got my 6/7/6 from my third try, my OR said, "Looks like you have one try left. But you're not going to take the test again because these scores are great!!" Obviously he was blowing smoke. I don't even know if I should trust his word about me having another shot left, because I don't want to take an illegal test, and Big Navy tell me to GTFO.

I feel you there. I was in the same 1SNA-2SNFO mindset when I first started this process but, I realized that I wouldn't be nearly as committed to my career as an NFO if that's what I ended up getting selected for. Personally, it would've just led to resentment for that decision and wishing I had tried for pilot since the passion for flying is what initially brought me down this path. Plus, if the intended goal after serving a contract is to head into the airlines and fly, I've heard NFOs get out with 0 flight hours and you basically start from scratch to build hours. So there's not much in the civilian aviation world with that background. But, to each their own. If you're cool with the NFO life, all the better for ya. You have good chances for both given your scores so, possibilities are endless.

Edit: By the way, sorry if that came out as persuasive or trying to oppose your career decisions in any way, I wasn't trying to play devil's advocate with that comment. I respect everyone's decisions and passions for where they want to go with this but, was just adding my thought process and conversating about when I was in that same mindset of being okay with either designator.
No sweat man. I'm not even thinking about or planning my career after military service because priorities change and I can't predict the future. I just want to get selected, bloom wherever I'm planted, and serve the rest of my military career that way. That being said, yes, I'm sure Naval Aviators (who fly AMEL) have a leg up when it comes to going into the airlines after their service obligations.

My recruiter told me way back before my ASTB that I needed at least trip 7s for "auto-qual" as an SNA. Pretty sure that's not ACTUALLY a thing, but it increases your odds significantly to the point where you're *probably* getting selected.

Auto qual hasn't been a thing for a long time

Just got off the phone with my OR and he said that since I didn't get selected for SNFO on the November board, I won't be able to apply for SNFO and SNA at the same time for October until I get better ASTB scores. Is there any rhyme or reason to this, or is he just wanting me to take the test again? @exNavyOffRec or @FormerRecruitingGuru

Also, he says I'll have to go to MEPS again. But that's just for a post-Lasik eye inspection, right?
technically he is right and since you had lasik you would technically need a new PQ letter since you have had lasik since you were at MEPS and issued a PQ letter.

Go for SNA if he lets you.

This was the setup at my OR's office. The stick was stiff (that came out wrong), but overall wasn't terrible.

This was the same setup I had and I’ll be honest..I thought this thing sucked. The dead zone on the stick was god awful and everytime I pushed forward the entire stick lifted off the table. Seriously feel I could’ve hit a 9 but hey we work with what we’re given right ?

Very true. My scores would've been really nice too! If I had this setup at home, I'd be okay, because I'd learn how to modify it lol

With all of this talk about war with China in the Pacific over their brinksmanship and recent actions in Taiwan, would that mean the Navy would be looking to bring in more pilots/NFOs to beef up their fleet? Could this force them to increase quota and selection rates?
I'll go out on a limb and say I highly doubt this panic will affect officer selection rates. This question has been asked in different flavors over the years (China vs. Taiwan, Russia vs. Ukraine, North Korea vs. Japan, etc.)

I remember this post from one of my buddies: https://www.airwarriors.com/community/threads/23may2022-sna-snfo-board.48542/post-1072064

Also, China has been threatening Taiwan for more than half a century, but they haven't done anything.
This is pretty humorous though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China's_final_warning

China: you better not go to Taiwan or we'll shoot down Pelosi's plane

Also China: oh you went anyway? oh well
