31OCT22 SNA/SNFO BOARD

So what’s a safe date to have everything submitted? Week before due date? I’ve heard the horror stories of people submitting and not being on the “at board list” (I still don’t know what that means) and so they don’t make that board even though they submitted everything.

The at-board list is the list of people who will be evaluated at the SNA/SNFO board. In other words, if you're not on the list, your application isn't getting looked at, and you'll have to wait for the next board.

How is it that people submit for the board but then they don’t make the at-board list? Mistakes of the recruiter or too many applicants?

Fairly certain for the SNA/SNFO board they don't really care about references.
Most important: PFAR/FOFAR
Next: OAR & AQR
Next: GPA

References are pretty low on the list of importance. BUT you should have ppl who know you write your references. Get your employer (team lead, boss), college prof, former coach, former scout leader, etc; to give you a rec way before a government employee you do not even know on a personal basis.

Edit: again, to my knowledge references are mostly used not as a golden ticket but more as a way to make sure the Navy doesn't bring on someone who is bat shit crazy
OAR doesn't matter, remember they are looking for people that will have the best chance of getting through the pipeline, references are nice but they can't help you fly.

Thanks for the advice guys. Definitely vindicates my confusion from my recruiter just randomly bringing that up to me. I ended up emailing my district representatives office anyway just to see what they will say. I guess a congresswoman's LOR can't hurt me but it probably isn't necessary.

Edit: I do have LOR's from my boss (I'm a lead technician at my job so that should be a decent one), and I'm waiting to hear back from a math professor that I really enjoyed taking differential equations from lol
I had several applicant submit with Senators, congressman, flag officers, and not a one was selected. Probably had something to do with substandard scores and the fact the board members know you are only spending 30 min with this person to get their recommendations.

A quote from a senior board member who I met was "anyone can blow smoke for 30 minutes to get a letter of recommendation".

If y'all are interested, I've been watching a ton of videos from The Operations Room on YouTube. He's been breaking down a lot of famous battles, and his series on Desert Storm is incredible.

I just watched the Air War, Day 1, and it still blows my mind that B-52s from Barksdale AFB made it to Kuwait and back (with re-fuels, of course)
I watched that one a long time ago and it's one of my favorite episodes! B-52s can stay airborne for 30+ hours with refuels, rotating crews, and pilots with "go-pills" lol

My American history teacher in high school had a picture of the Highway of Death on his bulletin board with the caption “Iraqi rush hour.”

He also had a Garand in the closet in his classroom, if that tells you anything else about him

Seriously though, just looked up the Highway of Death. Brutal stuff man

I watched this like a month ago and watched a bunch of his other videos. They are really well put together with the graphics and everything. It sent me down the WW2 pacific battles rabbit hole

It's looking like I probably won't make the deadline for this board.

MEPS responded for the second time this morning and asked for MORE documents and a current Xray of complete healing for a clavicle hairline fracture I had back in 2019. I have to track down that doctor to get records and find somewhere that can Xray my shoulder. I don't have doctor's orders for that though which most places need and don't have a primary care provider to sign off on it for me. Most of these primary care places are weeks if not months out for new patients right now so I won't be able to do that anytime soon.

I'm really hoping some miracle happens and I can submit in time but, as of right now, that possibility keeps seeming further and further out of reach.
Woah. If I were you man I'd be on the phone with every family/primary care practice within a reasonable radius of wherever you live. You might get lucky and call one that just had a cancellation.

He also used to be the head wrestling coach at my old high school and they won like 12 or 13 state titles under him before he stepped down.

I was always intimidated when he came to practice bc he really knew his stuff and was willing to help you but he wasn’t afraid to call you out if he thought you weren’t giving your best.

Easily one of the best teachers/coaches I’ve had the pleasure of learning from
