I’m not arguing for isolationism, in fact I’m against it, but America has had “America First” isolationist since about 1900 - the dawn of America’s global navy.
My post wasn't towards you, but am I wrong to say the actual America First political slogan was a phenomenon of just prior to WWII?

I'm still amazed at what our industrial base (or lack thereof) did when we finally got serious about WW II.81VObtgasBL._AC_UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg

It is a pointless comparison. Not in terms of industry, not in terms of politics, not in any terms. Why not compare it to the U.S. in 1860 or Rhodesia in 1978?

Out of curiosity, who would be whom in these comparisons?

Sir,

In the past t week I have accomplished the following:

1., Captured three (3) meters of Ukrainian soil at the mere cost of 10,000 zaklyuchennyy.

2. Oversaw conversion entire Black Sea Surface Fleet to submarines.

3. Was able to further stabilize the Russian economy by making each ruble worth five (5) kopecks.

4. Exceeded my weekly quota of hubris by a factor of twelve (12x).

5. Got told, “Not today, Russia.” no fewer than six times while trolling Air Warriors for classified information.

If you are struggling for an easy historical comparison try Europe in 1914 where thoughtless treaties and foolhardy escalation danced the world into its First World War, with devastating consequences.
No Griz, I'm not struggling for an easy historical comparison. I'm trying to figure out how so many professional (current or former) military officers have such a thin comprehension and appreciation for what history (time and again) can teach us.

Am I also to understand from your post that the US/European/NATO support for UKR is a "thoughtless treaty"?

Yes, Float Coat, you are struggling to find an easy historical comparison and Hitler isn’t it - that’s an entirely different set of circumstances. Maybe contemporary leaders actually do have a comprehension and appreciation for what history can technically us. If you really knew your history then you’d know why I recommend World War I as a starting point.

You misunderstand my point entirely. I am saying that the U.S./EU/NATO line must be held where it is with reference to the Ukraine. Give them peace, give them time to create a capable military, and give them space…but don’t give them false hope.

If you really want to get a good historical lesson to set the stage read the “Melian Dialogue” at the end of Book V of the History of the Peloponnesian War.

Now look, you’ve made me full history geek!
