Checking in to OCS

Is there an advantage/disadvantage to checking in early to OCS? By early I mean on Saturday rather than Sunday. My orders say that we have a 24 hr period to check in. I just wasn't sure when it would be best to arrive.

Check in on Sunday around 1000.

Be sure you check in on whatever day your orders tell you to (usually on a Saturday), but they will just stamp your orders and tell you to come back Sunday morning for processing (training doesn't actually start until Sunday). Sunday morning at 1000 is about perfect; if you come any earlier than that, you're just volunteering for more pain while waiting for the rest of your classmates to show up.

Dang, boy! Is you or is you not motivated? Show up a week early and PT with the senior classes. If they tell you to go away don't listen to them, they'll respect you for it. Wear a Marine Corps T-shirt too, they'll like that. Get your head shaved prior to showing up early. Wear cammy pants and get yourself a name tag early as well. Man are you lucky you checked with us first.

I have to agree with all of that. Except don't forget to bring a dozen roses for your drill instructor. I hear they like red.

Seriously, check in on Saturday. All that will happen when you do is that the stash Ensign will stamp your orders and send you over to the BOQ to get a room. Then you come back on Sunday at the prescribed time and let the fun begin. My advice is to enjoy yourself and relax on Saturday night. Go see a movie and get a nice dinner. Get together with some of your classmates that you find here. You won't get a chance to truly relax again for a while. Also, get plenty of sleep on Saturday night. Sleep in on Sunday. Good luck!

Check-in
Check-in will occur at the sea wall south of Officer Training Command. There will be a white 14-passenger van waiting in the parking lot west of the parade deck along Radford. If you cannot locate this, report to building 626, located at 150 Chambers Avenue. Base Security personnel at the Front Gate will give you directions if needed. Check-in wearing appropriate civilian clothes at the time and date specified on your orders. This includes those with prior military service. If you drove, you will need to have your driver's license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and if you are not the owner you will need a notarized copy of permission to drive the vehicle. These are required to obtain a vehicle pass. Vehicle passes are issued by OCS Administration staff upon arrival. Designated parking is provided, but you won't be allowed to use your car for at LEAST four weeks.

Note that this check-in is on SUNDAY. If your orders say to report on Friday or Saturday, report to building 626 to the quarterdeck (not the API building 633, but the building across the street from it) to get your orders stamped. Then you'll have the choice of staying at OCS or coming back on Sunday. Just my opinion, but DON'T stay at OCS. Enjoy the last one or two days of freedom you have.

That's a new one for me. I didn't think that there were any places on OCS, but I guess they've changed it a lot since I've been there. Still, enjoy your Saturday night.

Well, I'm going to check in early and prep for in-PRT so it doesn't get the jump on me like I hear it does for so many others.

I have a question if anyone of you know the answer. I just got orders to OCS and have a Report No Later than date of 12 APR 07 with a convene date of 14APR07, which is a Wednesday. I am just curious if this makes any sense when from everything I've ever seen OCS classes start on Sunday. Are the classes starting on different dates now, or is there a mistake in my orders? Thanks.

According to my calander, 12 Apr 07 is a Thursday and 14 Apr 07 is a Saturday. I just looked at my orders from when I went to OCS and they have a report NET and NLT date. So I don't know what is up with yours. You might check with your recruiter.

Ok, looking at my orders again, it says "Report NLT 13APR07 but NET 12APRL07" and the class conveines on 14APR07. Still, something doesn't really seem right although I've seen from other boards that there is a 14APR07 class. Does anyone know of a BUPERS number I could call to check this out? Thanks.

You can (should) show up to have your orders stamped by the NLT date, but it doesn't mean that your training will start at that point. If you check in on a Saturday, they'll just tell you to come back on Sunday morning when your training will actually commence.

checking in

Since you are a prior your orders are different. Check in when it says and your leave will stop. Just make sure you give yourself (on paper anyway) all six days of travel time from San Diego. quick 600 dollars (per diem) plus whatever else you are getting (dla, hhg, and all that stuff). Your training starts on Sunday so like is said above: 1000 at the seawall and try not to laugh. Have fun at OCS and congrats.

sarnav,

Is there anyway to get more leave days then that? I found out I'll be in the March 24 class and I'm still waiting for my orders to be cut, and I'm going from San Diego.
