Another nail in the coffin of Old-School Naval Avaition..

I never noticed a difference between tan and green bags when I was doing the seasonal change. Then again, it was 70 and sunny/partly cloudy 350 days out of the year there :) Seriously though, wasn't much different on those rare hot days then green bags in Merids or oceana on a hot day. That and I only have one pair of tan since I lent my other to a rag buddy and never got it back. Will probably be getting better use with him over afghan than me on the beach back in VA so whatever :)
 
In the T-34, the tan bags were appreciably cooler than the green ones down in the Corpus summer. The material feels thinner too although I don't know why.
 
I personally think the tan bags for the summer time are retarded. Why? Have you seen a crew chief after he's done a DNT/turnaround in his tan flight suit? It's black now, not tan... Try doing a static display after they've done 1.5-2 hours of flight time, to include aft station checks. Yup, the green is much better looking after that, and doesn't make our hard working young guys look like a bag of ass (even though they aren't).
 
After Djibouti I never really noticed a difference between green and tan, but I definitely loved the desert boots. They were a lot lighter and more comfortable in the heat.

I don't see anyone pissed off about the new regs. Just questioning the reasoning behind some of the rules. Like JO's should be doing. Yes I'm ecstatic that I can eat in town in a bag now. But does it really matter which patches I have on which sleeve. I understand the no shit hots, no tan inconus. But we aren't going to be uniform. Your patches won't look like mine and the locals won't notice, or more importantly give a shit.

I'll agree with The Harrier Dude. If it's hot, it's hot. Doesn't matter what color bag your in. Tan bags look shittier easier. That reg seems pretty vague as well. I would say that 102 in Fallon with no humidity is way cooler feeling than 98 in Pensacola with 99% humidity.

On a positive note, at least the new regs don't detail the color of socks and underwear.

Had the T-Birds on my ramp last September. First couple of days were 90's and high humidity. One of them remarked to me "I don't know how you guys work in this shit..." I'm thinking dude you live in the freakin desert...must be something to that "dry heat" thing.

R-1, be careful now, your cynicism & sarcasm are very similar to another "old salt" who left these boards in a huff !!! Something about things changing and remaining the same, etc . . . . . . :-)
 
I for one am happy we will be able to walk around in the bag without a SWO or CPO or anyone else for that matter, being able to say shit about it.

That said, I would still trade loosened regs for squadron colored T-Shirts, and loosened regs on patches.

The VP community (or at least the Jax side of the VP community) has interpreted the new patch regs to mean that right shoulder patches have to be positional (i.e. PPC, IP, TACCO, etc) in nature. Which means no more awesome subversive patches.
 
Eh, I think that depends on your command. Mine could care less, unless the wing has dictated some kind of awesomeness that I get to look forward to coming home.
 
Wy do people have such a tough time with grammar? This left-shoulder/right-shoulder discussion of patches isn't difficult if one has even a simple understanding of word choice and relative position in a sentence. There doesn't need to be any sea-lawyering (by armies or not) with the way it is written. I don't understand... Does anyone care to inform me why this is seemingly complicated by some folks (be it CPOs, SWOs, or P-3 guys)?
