First timer here! In the Intel board for December. Good luck to everyone!

24 year old male

3.66 GPA for bachelors degree (University of Virginia & a CC)
Major: Government

52 OAR score

LOR: 1) A U.S. Congressman 2) My former boss

Leadership experience: Was promoted to deputy campaign manager on a multi million dollar campaign where I oversaw 30 plus people. Additionally, I was promoted to shift trainer during my time as a server in college.

Motivational Statement: I come from a military family and I grew up in the Spec War community. Obviously, this made quite the impression on me and fostered a strong desire to serve my country and honor them. I love my country and I can't wait to serve.

You and I are very similar in GPA and OAR score! Hope to see Pro-Rec Y for us all!

It's nice to see someone else with a DLPT to add to their package! Although obviously with more serious experience than being a college student like me. It's also interesting to see how people apply to the Navy with all sorts of different backgrounds.

Russian is definitely one of the sought after languages right now. If I had the that language training over here they may have been a little more hesitant about signing that conditional release.

Now we play the waiting game.

Foreign languages add very minimal weight to an application.

If someone wants to use a foreign language they ought to go enlisted since that’s who uses them.

I'm aware it does nothing; I've been told that enough and know it doesn't help my slim chance. I'm also aware that officers don't do anything with languages. I just thought it was interesting to see.

Interesting fact, not a single one of my Intel selects put anything down about speaking a foreign language, they did have GPA's greater than 3.5 though, and some of the recruiters I worked with who had applicants that highlighted foreign language skills were not picked up, but they had so-so GPA's around 3.0 or so. It just shows it is the GPA and degree that is more important.

Good evening everyone, skimming through the other IWC boards, it looks like there's a range of a month to 6 months for a FINSEL after receiving a Pro Rec. Is there any information out there, that I'm overlooking, that shows a relationship between that length of time and the date you put on your package saying you would be ready to ship?

Thanks,

Andy

I've definitely been told that many times. My recruiter seemed comfortable putting me in even with a 3.3 GPA and 59 OAR because he had people selected with worse than that, apparently, and people with good stats rejected. I just think it's interesting when people put down languages they know here because that appears to be still collected information as noted by, for example, the stats on the Facebook page for PERS-472.

It is collected because it is on the application where a person can fill it in, just like dozens of other things.
