It's a general type of video, many channels make good review videos that are an hour to sometimes two hours long. It's nice to listen and take notes to fill the gaps in your study guide.

male or female is irrelevant in the selection, the competition is getting tighter so the advice to study and be ready to retake is sound.

Hi guys, took the ASTB this morning. It was my second try. I raised my scores from my first try but not as much as I wanted.
First try scores (November 2020):
OAR: 44
AQR: 4
PFAR: 6
FOFAR: 5
Today's scores (January 2021):
OAR: 48
AQR: 5
PFAR: 8
FOFAR: 6
I already spoke with my recruiter and after hearing him out we decided to submit for the April board since I only have one more try on my ASTB. The thinking is that I'll never know if I'll get selected with these scores unless we try. In addition, if I retake my ASTB and I were to do worse, then I wouldn't have a chance at all. I'm applying for SNA/NFO. I have a 3.0 from UC Berkeley with an Anthro degree. Thoughts?

I have always struggled with Math, and the math on the OAR portion wasn't too crazy, but I think I just need more practice on different mathematics to do better my second go round for sure, I am not too worried on my reading / mechanical knowledge.
I just ordered the Barron's ASTB study guide, as for my first test I used the "Newstone Test Prep OAR 2020-2021" and the "Test Prep Books ASTB 2020-2021 Study Guide" books, and the math almost seemed way easier in these than I saw on my exam.
Any tips or pointers would be great. I have no flight experience, and limited sim experience.

you have an 8 on the PFAR, you can't do much better than that.

the test is adaptive so if you are doing well you will see some pretty difficult problems at the end. suggest continuing to practice math for sure. if you're going for SNA/NFO you definitely need to raise those other scores as well. As others have suggested you can buy a cheap joystick and play some of those games mentioned earlier in this thread, make sure to invert your controls so it matches the test settings.
Quick questions for yall who took the astb. For the PBM the joystick controller. When you push the joystick away the cross hairs on the screen goes up, and when you pull it towards you the cross hairs goes down??
Just want to have my controller on the right settings to work the inverted aspect that threw me off twice already. Going for my 3rd try and see how it goes.
Please give me a confirmation or a correction, much appreciated.
Also. Odd numbers is trigger and even is clutch??

Negative.
When you pull the joystick down (toward you) the crosshair goes up. When you push it forward (away from you) the crosshair goes down. I believe even was right and odd was left so that should equate to odd numbers on the clutch (throttle), and even numbers on the joystick trigger if I remember correctly.

It's probably the most important single factor (PFAR) for SNA selection, compared to every other objective number.

Well that makes me feel better about my performance today. I appreciate it. I know there's an excel sheet for people submitting to the board. Is that open to anyone who wants to participate?
If you're submitting to a specific board that has it's own thread then feel free to add your stats to their respective sheet. Just as an FYI, the 8 PFAR is the top 11-4 %. Given that the minimum is a 6 to apply that's like saying you're top 25% on PFAR automatically.
