Can anyone show me the specific material they studied for the mechanical and math sections please? These two sections are really the only ones that I am not super confident about. If you would like to share your study guide I would appreciate it. Thanks everyone!
I used this from Amazon. It's a little more specific to the ASTB whereas some others are for all officer aviation tests. "The Complete ASTB Study Guide: Preparation Guide and Practice Test for the ASTB-E Exam". The PDF is $0.99. I found it to be a little basic but it was one of the highest rated guides. If you're good with the information from this guide you should do fine.

Thank you SO much, you have been super helpful with replying to all of my posts. I am very nervous for the exam as I am not a great test taker so I am just trying to make sure I do everything I can to prepare. I take it on Friday

I made the mistake of being super nervous my first time taking it and didn't do well. If you don't feel prepared, reschedule it if you can!

Thank you, I am going to try and push through my nerves because that is something I definitely need to work on. I rescheduled it once. I know a chunk of the material and have taken practice tests. I just dont want to fail

First off, don't worry about failing. They give you three shots at the test so if you don't get the scores you want make sure to think back on your weak areas and reattack after studying those areas.

I've taken the OAR twice so far and have gotten the same score. The second time I thought I did better yet... I didn't. Myself and my recruiter would like me to take it again for the third and final time. I have never been a good test taker and have always felt that tests like these don't determine how smart you really are. All of these tests (OAR, SAT, GRE) are all made to try and trick you and I don't believe that is fair. None the less my complaints won't change anything. What I need is some suggestions on what to study and where to find it cause clearly what I was studying did not help as I thought it did. I went through the forum and picked up some good study material and tips on what to study but I know there is so much more that I probably missed.

For those who help, I thank you and I am extremely grateful for your time and effort. If I am being extremely honest having to take the test for a third time is extremely discouraging, it makes me feel that maybe I am not cut out for this. However, I do not want to give up, I have one more try and I am going to give it my all.

I am not a fan of standardized test, but it is hard to discount them when they are validated with actual results of those who have served, more so with the aviation designators.

In the other designators it seems to be more of a tool to help reduce the number of applicants given how the min OAR score has gone up and down over the years.

What designators are you wanting to apply for, some have OAR waivers, what was OAR score that you rec'd.

Just took the ASTB for the first time today - going to retake next month as my scores were not competitive enough. 40 4/6/5

I have always struggled with Math, and the math on the OAR portion wasn't too crazy, but I think I just need more practice on different mathematics to do better my second go round for sure, I am not too worried on my reading / mechanical knowledge.

I just ordered the Barron's ASTB study guide, as for my first test I used the "Newstone Test Prep OAR 2020-2021" and the "Test Prep Books ASTB 2020-2021 Study Guide" books, and the math almost seemed way easier in these than I saw on my exam.

Any tips or pointers would be great. I have no flight experience, and limited sim experience.

I have not taken the exam, however I take it on Friday. I know everyone studies differently but I feel what helped me and this may help you as well is, I write the material that I am studying over and over again and that has helped me memorize a fair amount of information. I am not a great test taker either but from experience that is what has helped me in the past. I also have posted some questions on specific things to study and have gotten responses if you want to look at some of the things others replied about.

I was never a great test taker either, and through an 8 month long technical school in the USAF I thought that it was rigged against me. In the first two months I overthought every question and scored lower on the tests than my classmates even when I was the one teaching them the material. My classmates didn't understand the material, but they wrote their rote memorized answers down on the test and scored better than I did. Military tests are pretty straightforward and are not designed to trick you. If the answer seems too easy, don't psyche yourself out about it.

I figured out the military tests are mostly about regurgitating the information and that's all there is to it. The OAR/ASTB is slightly different because it will test the extent of your knowledge with the adaptive test, but that doesn't mean it's trying to trick you. It's trying to see where you fit score-wise with everyone else. If you want to join the military I'd get over this, "It's not fair and they're made to trick you" mentality. You're going to be compared to your peers constantly through evaluations so carrying that mentality into a military service is just going to weigh you down and you're not going to enjoy it.
