1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Appreciate the input, i can be inconsistent at times with the jantzen sim, but I see a lot of high 70s I got a 62 once.
You will be fine then. Keep in mind this is 60-70s on both stick and throttle. Also no you do not need green crosshairs the whole time. I've found that you need to track the targets correctly the whole time and respond quickly to direction changes, but no you do not need green crosshairs.

Appreciate the feedback. I'm averaging around 130 but am playing on a large 32" high res monitor. I've heard that makes it tougher due to a lot more pixels. Or I just need a lot more practice, lol

Anybody have any last tips, I take the astb for the third and final time tomorrow morning at 9.
like everyone else said, bring snacks and water. Make sure to read the instructions for each of the PBM portions very carefully, and write down the emergency procedures neatly so you can reference them quickly. Don't let perceived performance on past sections influence your mindset going into other sections. Overall, just don't psych yourself out. You got this!

Okay well, I had kinda a tumultuous day that ended with somewhat decent news. My scores are technically not final due to an error with the apex server which did not allow to do dichotic listening. So my recruiter got off the phone with Pensacola and they are going to allow me to redo my pbm portion of the exam. Either tomorrow or in 31 days they haven’t decided because this is a rare case.

Well my scores with a malfunctioning PBM were 51 5,6,6

MST ( I answered about 20 questions)

Cube roots, negative exponents , diving binomials , simple geometry, I saw one DRT and some basic probability. Discounts were present. Didn’t think I did well enough to see some of the more difficult math concepts.

RCT didn’t really study for this , learn how to speed read and look for key words that may help you answer it. 2 of them are very incorrect of the rip, you are left with two similar answers. Thought I did very well on this .

MCT, thought I got most my points on OAR from this , it’s basically all conceptual with exception of some basic distance time problem. You’ll see pulleys, mechanical advantage , conceptual questions about fulcrums. Basically if you can do very basic high school physics it will lead you in the right direction. Kyle’s study guide that’s been linked here will get you most of the way there. Saw some outliers such as a question about superconductivity that I guessed on.

ANIT, this is where things started to go south for me. My test froze in the middle of the section and the timer was still going. But I saw components of an aircraft , parts of a ship. Some airport operations questions and very some questions about flight instruments. One question asked how vortices form and atmospheric pressure CRAM flash cards help a lot as well as the FAA handbook.

PBM , what a disaster. Started off strong use the compass trick with UAV averaged like low 2 seconds but I missed two or three. Tracking was fine, but my audio never worked and the sections froze between intermissions and I had to reset APEX like 4-5 times before I could get it to move on. Audio still never worked and emergency procedures had an issue where my clutch button wouldn’t register.

Initially a great day turned sour pretty quickly , but there’s a glimpse of hope as my recruiter called Pensacola as they are allowing me to retake my ANIT/PBM portion while keeping my OAR.

My advice would be if you have apex malfunctions do not continue to take the test. As that was my recruiters advice. I’ll have a more updated score when I retake PBM whether it be tomorrow or in 31 days they are figuring it out.

Haven't been able to find a functioning link of the NAMI practice guide, but yesterday I managed to find one on a reddit comment
File attached in case the link goes stale at some point

Hey everyone, I just have a quick question here about how my scores would stack up in the present day to try to go through OCS and get an SNA spot.
55 OAR
6 AQR
8 PFAR
7 FOFAR
I have quite a story to tell for an application, previously being in NROTC with a scholarship before but leaving because of pericarditis. Everything has since cleared and I go to a California UC as a Psychology major with a 3.75 GPA. I took the ASTB close to 2 years ago, and I know the scores are good for life. Thank you!

My recruiter just got back to me, apparently the only change is that there's going to be a different person administering the tests here in my area lol

More importantly, the test itself won't have any changes, so that was good to hear

Kyle's study guide has pretty much everything you might need for improving your OAR
Thank you. I’ve been trying to navigate through this app. I think I’ve been using kyles study guide.. I’m not too sure since it’s so many resources on here.

Also, would you say kyles study guide will have some of the similar question formats?

They are fine, get your physical done and apply. If you want SNA only apply SNA.

Kyle's study guide will have pretty much everything you need to get a solid score, there's a lot of material in there so take your time with it.

As far as I can remember, Kyle's has plenty of questions similar to those on the test. There's some stuff you may want to brush up on like exponents, probability, simple machines, etc.
