You should try for at least 7 on FOFAR if you want to really have a chance to get selected, 6's are really hit and miss.
Do you have any guidance on how to be best prepared to do that? I’ve had some friends who have recently been selected with 6’s, but 7’s wouldn’t upset me at all! I’m all ears. Thanks in advance!

If you look through the post there are several who have posted what they have used and had good luck doing well on the ASTB.

Getting selected can happen but odds are against it, just study the materials suggested by others and if you don't get the scores you want keep studying and try again, you have about 5 months before the deadline for the next board.

So in grade school I slacked extremely hard and it is now biting me in the ass when it comes to math for the OAR I did not have to do much of any math in college cause I was in Liberal arts. I have been using the study guides found on here and some I purchased and even Kahn Academy algebra courses. I know very basic algebra ishhh. What grade level should I go back to and study for Algebra on Kahn academy to help with the study guides, Because without the basics I am struggling with the study guide I get lost when they start putting word problems into equations to solve it easier like for mixture problems and the workers and time problems. Should it be like 5.. 6th grade Algebra?? Be brutally honest how far back should I go in Algebra.

I’m going to tell you from personal experience. I took the ASTB about a month or two ago and the math section is what hurt me. I’m pretty good at math but after getting 4 or 5 questions right, you get hit with some pretty hard problems. I could even look at the answers and narrow it down to 2 for a few problems because I had no clue where to even start on solving it. Study up, good luck!

your FOFAR score is going to heavily depend in both you Math score (which I guess is a moot point since you already took your OAR) and the unmanned air vehicle portion of the PBM section of the ASTB, the ANIT section mostly works for your PFAR score. Study the compass trick, and when it comes to the stick and throttle portion, LISTEN first, do what they are telling you to do to the T, don't fuck the audio cues up....then focus on staying on the targets and you should be fine. Also if you haven't taken the ASTB before, expect to get better with those two as you go, I started sucking in the practice and improved a lot as the test progressed. Good Luck brother

Is the OAR section of ASTB (math sec, reading, mech comprehension) all multiple choice? I keep seeing people talk about questions they have gotten on mech comp. such as "do you know this concept? if so explain?" Is that fair game for a question or will they be multiple choice?

All MC, I didn’t see a single question like that and not sure how you could even answer that in a MC format. The section was incredibly theoretical for me, so you should be familiar with basic physic concepts.

From my understanding, (I’m going to take it this Friday) it’s all multiple choice for the OAR section. The thing is that it doesn’t show you how much time you have remaining and once the computer determines your understanding of the section it stops and goes to the next section of the oar.

That's what I was assuming. Thanks! Goodluck for Friday!

Any tips on how to study for OAR portion im not any good at math. Reading and Mechanical im okay but not great I took it the test already didnt do good. When I took the test the stuff that I studied for went out the window anything that i need to look out for ?

I got a question regarding the PBM part hoping for some clarifications. I’m confused on some things, so where you do the tracking, listening, emergency procedures all together. How does the clutch button work for doing this all at the same time, how will the system know, since it’s used for pressing whenever you hear an odd/even number (for example) but plus when your told to do EPs (for example fire which is everything down then clutch).

Hopefully this makes sense to someone. Secondly, for the compass trick I see a quizlet going around with examples. Are questions in order like if the arrow is facing north are the other 3 also, like similar to the quizlet I saw. I can do them with compass trick but I’m assuming speed is important, I can do it in like maybe 3-3.5 seconds. But curious how this will pan out if every question is all over the place since it’s like 65 questions I think.

The emergency procedures won’t be done at the same time as the listening portion. So there will be a section with the tracking and listening. Then a new section with the tracking and EPs.

Are we allowed to bring in a flashcard with the UAV compass trick written down already and EPs? Or are we given unlimited time before the start to write down anything we want? Lastly, are the UAV questions in order like the Quizlet, and by order I mean are the heading question consistent for the next three, or is it on the whole thing on shuffle? If that makes sense, just want to make sure. I've already practiced it on shuffle but just wondering. Whats a good reaction time to get for these, I feel like I can get these in about 2 seconds but that's not fast enough I feel.
