Roger that. Well I have close to 20 hours of flights time while working on my private pilot license. Bs-physics, government internships, Outstanding LORs, 5+ years of experience in the aviation field.. e.g., working directly with a wide range of military/private aircrafts, and no waivers… just trying to think wether It’s worth submitting a package with that PFAR as a 5… my only thought for it being so low was that I missed like 3 on the dichotic listening.. on my UAV I missed one avg about 1.5… the joystick portion I rocked since I bought sticks to practice with Jantez sim… I messed up partially on the fire emergency and fixed immediately… on the ANIT I had about 17-18 questions but felt I answered almost every single question right. My negative take from the PFAR score would be that I was much to slow on the ANIT questions, though I felt I answered correctly I was a bit slow on my response time, the dichotic listing went well until those 3 mess ups that all happened on the same ear, and a slight error On the fire emergency sections where I turned the knobs the wrong way but ended up saving it. Apart from submitting a package with what I have above…. I’m curious how that PFAR dropped so much. I had those cross hairs lined up pretty much the entire time And crushed the UAV portion, slight error on dichotic and the first fire emergency..also I think I answered the ANIT questions rather slow, though most if not all were Correct

You could’ve read the directions wrong like I did first time around. My PFAR was a 5 raised it to a 7… after I realized I messed up the first time around

I did something similar and went from a 4 to a 9. Although I also freaked out that I got a 4 so spent a lot of time preparing

All speculation at the end of the day
20 years of it being the same isn't really speculation at that point it is more normal business.

The problem is when they changed how recruiting worked at the "street" level a lot of knowledge was lost which is causing applicants to do more work, or do things that have no bearing on selection. It is too often those doing the recruiting are viewing applications for Supply, SNA, or SWO as essentially the same application and process, yes it may look like that but it really isn't.

The single thing a person can do to make themselves competitive is a very good PFAR or FOFAR, if you can do that nothing else will matter.

NROTC MIDN here. I took the ASTB for the first time today and got 6/7/6. I hadn't practiced with the joystick and throttle. Going to get the X52 to practice with. Does anyone know how to set it up with Jantez's simulator? All I have is a Mac laptop.

Also to improve the 6's I got, what sections affect those scores the most?
Being an NROTC guy, your scores should be good. Have you spoken to the Aviation Advisor at the NROTC? Unlike direct OCS applicants, NROTC only requires you meet the mins. Your scores are above the mins, so I would advise the you do not re-take the ASTB. Also, ask your advisor.

Overall, what do you think you changed that made the biggest overall impact on your score… did you perform on PBM portion pretty much the same besides fixing the emergency portion? Or did you improve in all areas across the board?

Didnt go all out and buy a hotas... but I did buy a cheap $20 logitech joystick to practice the Jantzen sim. I want to say that and my UAV just being able to do it in my head compared to using the compass trick.

Hmmm…. Well if you don’t mind, where do you feel you improved the most the second time taking the PBM that had the most significant change in your score? I’m trying to gauge what exactly holds the most weight and or what I need to improve because I felt like i did rather well… better then a 5 at least…

Also, what indication led you to believe you made an error on the emergency section?

Yeah I took the same approach. I did the UAV portion in my head and pretty much had it down to 1.3 seconds on the app, and besides missing one, my time was the same on the PBM.. I also bought a cheap joystick and was averaging 150ish on the hardest setting with 200 seconds of sim time. So I’d say I was comfortable and confident I performed well in both of those sections.

I really feel like I got significantly better at all portions. The first time I learned the "trick" of using the compass rose for the UAV portion incorrectly and got the first 10 wrong before I just improvised and just started answering without it.
My school has a TBAS simulator for the Air Force which is nearly identical to the ASTB so I was using that a ton which helped.
For the emergency section there was an error I thought I cleared but it kept flashing so I kept trying and was never able to get it to stop.
I really just had not prepared at all the first time and assumed I could walk in and get a stellar score, the 2nd time was three months later with a lot of prep.

So pretty much once the flashing goes away you know you cleared the error? For each one of the Emergency procedures, I turned the nobs accordingly(I believe) and hit the clutch.. after a few seconds I had some red flashing that went away with in a couple seconds and then moved onto the next EP.. does that sounds like it was done correctly or how it went for you?

No that’s what happens when you do it incorrectly.

I'm going to give it another shot. The only thing I practiced was UAV and only studied ANIT. Gonna hammer mechanical and math some more in the next month. Defenility feel like I can add at least 1 point to AQR and FOFAR with a month of some good studying. Sitting around a 3.3 GPA so want to give myself the best shot at getting selected.
