Hey everyone,

Recently took my ASTB for the first time, results as follows:
OAR: 68
AQR: 9
PFAR: 7
FOFAR: 9
LCAC: 49

I realize that these scores are fairly good, but my goal is to be a pilot, I have no desire to be an NFO. Will they look at the individual scores and say “well his NFO score is better” and stick me there? Or do they view all the scores more altogether? And does the LCAC score matter at all?

Also, my GPA isn’t the best, 2.7 in a Tier 2 major. I’m graduating in Fall 24 out of ROTC. Should I retake my ASTB to get the pilot score higher (I know what I messed up and think I could improve), and is there anything else I can do to improve my odds of getting a pilot slot?
Thanks.

You’re not doing any favors with the PFAR and low GPA.

Talk to your aviation advisor to see where you stack.

NROTC does things differently than 95% of us on here… Civ/OCS route has different quotas than NROTC/Academy.

Talk to your advisor and they’ll know. No one on here I’ve seen knows those thresholds for NROTC. Also you are very competitive, but the hardest things looked at for pilot is PFAR, GPA. Doesn’t mean your good oar and 9’s don’t matter. Those will definitely help you out a lot.

Overall great scores You’re competitive and talk to your advisor

Also what you could work on, play intermurals, build leadership through volunteering and clubs. You could work on your PPL as well.

You’re not done with school yet either. Finals are coming up finish the year strong, take EASY summer Gen eds, retake classes if you still can over the summer, and exhaust your efforts into raising your GPA

Sorry I had a brain fart when writing that. I meant the ASTB is harder than the SIFT. I don't have any information on how each section is weighted on the SIFT.

Scores:

ASVAB: 97
- 3 days of studying
- basic review of mental math and physics

SIFT: 72
- 2 weeks of studying
- bought SIFT practice test book and made sure I was able to answer every question
- lots of helicopter aerodynamics using this legend: https://www.youtube.com/@helicopterlessonsin10minut10

ASTB (1st take): 54 7/7/7
- 1 month of studying
- used similar strategy to SIFT with practice test book
- supplemented with more math and mechanical comprehension questions from Kyle's drive
- did NOT use compass trick

ASTB (2nd take): 63 8/8/7
- about 2.5 weeks of studying (10 months after the first take)
- primarily used Gomez's drive and random problems posted on this forum
- heavily leaned on this YouTube channel for math: https://www.youtube.com/@TheOrganicChemistryTutor
- used compass trick (would recommend practicing it before test)
- had additional experience from taking a ground school and some seat time in a friend's RV6 and Globe Swift
- overall, felt like I could improve my scores a little bit more (especially the PBM), but I'm happy and will be submitted my next packet with those 8s

AFOQT: TBD
Apparently I can’t go back and edit my previous post. Just got a AFOQT scores back.

AFOQT:
Pilot - 90
PCSM - 75 (without flight hours applied)

This probably is irrelevant for most of you but someone asked me post scores so here you go! I’ve officially taken all of the military entry level pilot tests lol

I've also taken all 3 and ASTB was by far the best for me.

SIFT 64 (First test I took and it was before I started my degree in Aeronautics)

AFOQT: Pilot score 80, CSO score 95

ASTB First attempt OAR 60 4/4/4 (That day was a comedy of errors, slept poorly, terrible traffic driving to the test site, arrived late so was stessed, etc;)
ASTB Second Attempt OAR 64 9/9/9

My recruiter is telling me that only 3% of pilot applicants are being selected right now and I'd have to wait till 2025 to go to OCS if selected for a pilot spot. Has anyone else heard or been told something like this?

I can’t see how your recruiter is able to predict a selection rate without the quotas being released yet. 2024-2025 sounds about right for ship dates though, but I am just simple brained monke

Yep that makes no sense, you can't predict a percentage rate without knowing how many are going to be sent to board and how many spots they will be allowed to fill.

Been through almost every practice problem on here, including the gouges…

Does anyone have any suggestions for practice problems more correlated to the ASTB…

Not 2x+1=5, I mean like over complicated practice problems just like what’s seen on the ASTB.
