Anyone in here use Barrons to study mechanical comprehension if so how reliable or credible is it as a source of information?

I used a little bit of Barrons, another ASTB book, the prep app and youtube. I'll get back to you on it but I've heard good things from them in this forum

My first attempt was pretty eye-opening. I bought a joystick and throttle set and I’ve been really working on Jantzen’s sim. I would focus more on ANIT and PBM if you’re going for Aviation. If you’ve got UAV down pat and are pretty comfortable with inverted flight controls you’ll do okay
How did set up the hotas for jantzens? I am trying to figure out the AntiMicro app, a little confusing.

I’ve got a Macbook so it’s way different. Just set your mapping to wear y axis is inverted and the throttle is pushed up for W and pushed down for S. I learned via YouTube lol

Mine doesn't seem to work with w and s that well so I guess I'll stick with the keyboard for that, the joystick works well.
What are ideal numbers to be getting on here?

I’ll put it on the hardest difficulty and with keyboard/mouse I can get 71-73 on each. I haven’t quite got my Saitek X52 setup but it’s coming. I’ve heard that anything below that is gravy. Check out this spreadsheet:

If you can beat 140 or so consistently for both using the x52, you should be groovy. In terms of keyboard, 70 or better, but I am glad I bought the sticks personally. Keyboard and mouse controls did nothing for me.

I have a stick and then just use the keyboard for the throttle portion as my actual throttle doesn't seem to work properly with it. On one notch below hard I am getting around 90 if I remember correctly.

Check your connections, and see if you have the ES keys mapped properly.

How hard is the actual tracking on the ASTB cause I have my setting on Hard on the Jantzen simulator

It's way easier on the real test IMO. I think even easier than the default difficulty setting on the simulator. You have a lot more control and precision in the real test and the controls feel smooth.

If you have ever tried the TBAS Test Prep software, it feels exactly like that.

On the actual test can I preset my knobs for the emergency section ? Is it similar to the app where fuel 100 engine 0 or it’s different?

What do you mean by preset? I think the test will tell you to set the knobs to be at 50% before you start. There are little gauges at the bottom of the screen that tell you what your fuel and power are set to during the test.

I'm pretty sure the emergencies go in order so it'll say FIRE first and after you solve that emergency you can set your knobs to be ready for the ENGINE emergency before it is even announced by the test.
