Thank you for the information.

The Navy does not have any documentation of my herniated disks, they just know I have lower back pain. My recruiter told me to not give them more information than they ask when I get to MEPS. My doctor's note for my back is very general and does not specify herniated disks either.

I'm hoping I can fly under the radar. Flying for the Navy has always been a dream of mine and I'm trying my hardest to not let my back get in the way of that. Again, hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.
Just be prepared to answer questions at meps, when I went to meps a couple months ago the doctor asked me about a hernia that I had from highschool in which I never went for surgery and only told my family doctor about it once during a yearly physical in highschool and never brought it up again or was asked about it from my family doctor afterwards due to it going away on its own. The meps doctor wound up doing a thorough inspection of the area anyways and kept asking questions as well.

Did you pass? Were you going for SNA?

Yes I was going for SNA and passed. My meps doctor was very hands on and in depth with the physical and every injury or even slightest health issue, mainly fractures, cysts, and hernia I had from middle school through highschool were brought up and asked about as well as physically inspected. It may be different for other people experience on how in depth their meps doctor is but that was just my experience when I went.

Okay well, that gives me a bit of hope. Sounds like I have a similar medical history to yours. My disks give me no symptoms and I have a full range of motion. Although I did extensive PT to correct it.

Yea I had a groin area hernia which was from me squatting to heavy with improper form but it went away after like 2 weeks of not lifting heavy and hasn’t been a problem since. And then a hip fracture from soccer in highschool that didn’t require surgery ( but I did have to get a signed form from the doctor at the hospital saying I didn’t need surgery ) before I even went to meps, and a wrist hernia in middle school that I had drained and that went away after as well. But as I previously mentioned, they still passed me.

Okay sweet, sounds like if they don't cause you issues then you're good to go...hopefully. Aside from my disks I've had broken fingers, jaw, and nose from football (had to have surgery on both nose and jaw). A few burns from firefighting (no skin graphs but still have the scars). Cysts and abscesses as well. I'm in really good shape and have no symptoms/complications from any of them. Maybe I'll get lucky!

About to get the app to practice this! Thanks for sharing and best of luck for MEPS!

On a side note my recruiter sent me a text about a week ago saying they were at max for 2024 pilots and were no longer accepting immediate select candidates (next board this April is considered start of 2025). I have no reason not to believe them but also wasn't sure if anyone else was able to verify this. I didn't ask if this applied to SNFO's.
Weird I heard the opposite from my recruiter and I just spoke with him last week too. I was informed that the backlog is cleared and people were getting shorter wait times for OCS(like 2-3 months after acceptance) and flight school. He talked about the immediate selection but didn't say it was cancelled. I will contact him again later this week to double-check. So does this mean the immediate selection process is already canceled I wouldn't be surprised, as it would've gotten a whole lot more applicants resulting in a backlog again. But I didn't think it would die out this quickly. Would love to hear others' input on this as well.

I feel like a lot of recruiters are just speculating right now. I’ve heard people say many conflicting things lately.

As for my recruiter, he doesn’t seem to think that immediate selection will be a factor in the April board. I’ve talked to him about it a couple of times.

There is little need for recruiters to speculate as they have access to the dashboard as do many active duty applicants.

April and May boards are historically when they start the next FY so by this time they should have filled the 2024 spots so this should be no surprise to any recruiter, it is like being surprised this is snow in Alaska in January.

If they are not accepting Immediate Selection candidates that should be very concerning as that could indicate no need for an April board. The PA does not say "some applicants" who meet the criteria will be processed for OCS it says "any applicant" and it does not specify a timeline other than "as soon as possible"

How can any recruiter say immediate selection will not be a factor, they are taking spots allocated and giving them to those who meet the criteria. If the SNA criteria was 8/8/8 vice 7/7/7 I might tend to agree, but they are opening up many to get the direct route to OCS with the 7/7/7

I was referring to speculation on immediate selection, not everything else, I should’ve specified.

I’ve heard people say their recruiters told them immediate selection is rolling, and people say it is during the board. Then others say it is not a factor, such as mine. I would like for it to apply, and hope it does. Been at this for too long lol, it would be a big relief.

Per the PA they bypass the normal board process, in order to know how many spots they have for the regular board the immediate selection applicants would need to be processed first, whether that is after the deadline or just as they come in it really doesn't matter.

Update to this, my recruiter now says immediate select will apply for April. As exNavyOffRec said, they will select those who qualify first, then the board will look at the remaining packages.

Wanted to thank this thread for helping me prepare for the ASTB. I took it about two years ago, and scored fairly well (6/7/7), but did not get selected when I first applied for the board. With the new selection criteria that came out in November, I followed a couple of the study guides, specifically found @Dinosaurologist write up incredibly helpful. Most of the questions I had about the exam I was able to find answers on in this thread, and I believe this community proved invaluable in my prep and was an immense reason I was able to score as well as I did.

I was able to score a 71 9/9/9 and should be getting my class date soon as we finalize all my paperwork. Once again, thank you all for your help and for taking the time to write about what helped you succeed because you never know who it might help in the future.

Does anyone know any tricks for Terrain Identification? I keep scoring between 60%-90% on the ASTB prep app. I also think some of those answers might be wrong on there, but I am not sure if that is just me or not.
