Myself and others would recommend against that. Spending the time to answer 1-2 questions correctly will do you more favors than guessing on a bunch. You won't know how many questions you have left, so if you make the decision to speed run the rest and guess you could potentially find yourself guessing on half of the questions, possibly getting them wrong. Plus, you don't know if the system will kick you out early or not.

Remember, you also need a GPA of 3.0 or higher, as well as no moral or age waivers. I've seen some people in this thread say that you're fine for ISEL if you have medical waivers, I haven't seen anyone post hard proof of that, but I guess I can serve as a good guinea pig for the question because I currently have an ISEL package submitted with a medical waiver.
Have you heard back with dates yet? I'm about to submit my I-SEL packet, but I would like to finish out this semester of grad school before leaving. Recruiter is fairly unsure, but says the last guy he had go SNA submitted in January and got a class date in August.

I have not heard back about my I-SEL yet. I'll let you know about dates when I do.

I recently took my first ASTB test

OAR: 52
AQR: 5
PFAR: 5
FOFAR: 5

I got the ASTB prep app on my phone and primarily used that as my study tool.
The math portion went by very quickly and felt good a few different concepts about dice and cards. Some questions about the odds of picking certain colored marbles out of a jar in order. A question about the odds of a guy guessing the last two pin numbers of his credit card pin.

The English section was nothing like the ASTB prep app and was extremely hard to focus because of the distractions from different people in the recruiter office. Not really sure how I could've prepared better for this especially since I've never has an English mind.

The Mechanical was a lot easier than I anticipated with few equation problems. The equation required problem consisted of a pully system asking about the consistent force needed to move an object, but was unlike any pulley I have ever seen.

Messed up on a few of the UAV questions because of nerves. A slow right answer is better than bombing the wrong parking lot!

The stick and throttle portion was a lot longer than I anticipated. There was a section that included responding to emergency procedures by turning nobs on the throttle.

I defiantly needed more practice in different areas than I focused on.
Any suggestions to improve the ASTB portion of my test score?

What to study for the Aviation knowledge portion especially!
If you want a great background on basic aviation knowledge like what you might see on the ASTB (Parts of a plane, basic physics of flight, etc.) you should give the FAA's Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge a look, it's a free PDF download here.

Did anyone on this forum receive/pay for tutoring? Would you recommend a tutor such as Varsity tutors to help study for math and mechanical sections? Or just try to nail down the ASTB Prep app and the drives?

This is the closest thing to preparing for the emergency procedures/the stick and throttle portion of the PBM: https://jomo1-1.github.io/ASTB-remade/

On the exam, you'll be given 3 emergency scenarios: #1. fuel emergency, #2. engine emergency, & #3. propeller emergency. Depedning on which emergency, you'll be asked to either turn the fuel and engine knob to high, neutral, or low.

Hi! Longtime lurker .. taking ASTB tomorrow, any word on if I can study my notes inbetween each break? Im sort of nervous about the Mechanical and Aviation/Nautical information sections and seeing if I should bring additional study guides for a quick refresh?

After the OAR section, you'll have a 15-minute break. You can catch up on anything you need for the ANIT if need be.

For those worried about the stick and throttle portion of the test...

Below are my Jantzen sim scores from when I started studying to the night before my ASTB. Had ChatGPT make me graphs because I wanted to visually see my improvement. Thought it was too interesting to not share. These are about 150+ entries, and I did a little more without writing down the scores.

Buy the stick, set your AntiMicroX min dead zone to 3000, and practice endlessly. I started averaging countless 200s, then eventually got down to the 90s-100s. Averaged these near the end and ended up with a 9 PFAR. It is not impossible but a positive mindset will be the key here!
