15 Aug 18 Pilot/NFO board

Well my CO recommendation came back in time and we emailed my package in today. Kind of worried about the medical thing though. I have seen people saying you need to be medically qualified through "N3M" before submitting the application. Definitely didn't do that, but hopefully I hear some kind of confirmation soon. Good luck everyone.

Pretty sure that's only for waivers. If you didn't need a waiver, you don't need to go through N3M

Hey guys,

This is my first board and I'm applying for SNA and NFO. Got my application turned in at the beginning of June and now just killing time.

Stats:
GPA: 3.17
Degree: Political Science
OAR/ ASTB: 51 5/7/6
LOR: O-4 USCG, E-9 USMC, and the former chancellor of my university.

Everyone on here looks a bit sharper score wise and it's making my wish I retook the ASTB but my recruiter wouldn't allow it. Looking forwarding to discussing this board with all of you and being impatient over the results!

Turned in my packet and then the very next day I got too drunk and got arrested for a public intoxication(class c misdemeanor). I’ve already told my recruiter and he’s already got ita waiver. I have no prior convictions, not even a speeding ticket.
My question: should I just take the fine and accept the charge or should I pay an attorney $2k to get it dropped sometime in mid September.
Does the Navy care if I’m convicted or not, or in their eyes the only thing that matters is that I fucked up in the first place and got arrested aka the damage is done?

I have a similar offense (albeit from 7 years ago, not yesterday) and it seemed to mean a whole lot that my offense was expunged rather than on my permanent record.

It has to be completely “dismissed”. WIthout any further actions like paying a fee, classes, community service and such. Otherwise you’re gonna need a waiver, because in the Navy’s eyes you’re guilty.

For waivers the navy goes off the initial charge, not if it’s dismissed or not.

+1 to this. Yes, forgot to mention that. I think you should be “okay”(maybe) as long as it wasn’t a felony and/or isn’t related to moral, weapons, drugs (besides marijuana, cause I’ve seen dudes get picked up with minor charges) and family violence. That’s just from what has been passed to me or I’ve read throughout the infinite forums here. But yours is very recent, I’m not too sure how they react to certain time frames. Especially since being an officer and public intoxication don’t go well together. All we can really do is try, worst they can do is tell us “no”.

I am asking because I failed the MEPS depth perception and my OR had me go to the local base and had it retested (which I passed) and signed off which has always worked for him in the past. But unfortunately he found out procedures changed and it must now be done by the "Optometrist Officer" and not a technician in order for N3M to sign off and he is unable to schedule me with the Optometrist Officer. Any advice or info? Thanks in advance.

No you still apply for specific designator/s. You can’t apply for Pilot if you are not physically qualified.

Thank you for your reply. That is interesting why my OR would have said that in regards to automatically applying for both designations when that is not true.

So you have never heard of the option of the "Optometrist Officer" signing off on someone who failed DP at MEPS in order to make sure they are physically qualified? He said it is a new requirement and has previously been able to get the form signed by the technician at the base (which is what I had done). Are you saying MEPS is the absolute only option?

Checking in. I was PROREC-N on the 23MAY board due to an admin oversight. OR had me re-submit immediately, although I did completely overhaul my motivational statement and APSR, and had since graduated from college and began working at a new job.

ASTB: 48 6/7/6
Massachusetts Maritime Academy: B.S., Marine Transportation/U.S. Merchant Marine 3rd Mate License
LORs: Two RADM's (one a pilot), academic adviser, employer CEO, and LT Michael Murphy's father: a retired O6.

I know I'm the odd man out with the low GPA and OAR, but I don't have the money for a masters program at the moment and plan to retake the ASTB if this board doesn't work out (*knock on wood*). That said, any idea when those who are selected might expect to class up at Newport? I've been given the opportunity to sign onto a ship for a 45-60 day civilian mariner gig in a couple weeks, but nervous that I would overshoot my OCS date.
