In my personal experience, I prefer traditional running shoes, particularly Asics. I've found that cross training shoes have less support and/or cushioning so theyre lighter and easier to do exercises like squats in, kind of like minimalist shoes. If you really want to get your shoes dialed in go to a running store and let them watch you run.
