Oh and hills. Once you start getting running down incorporate at least one hill workout a week. It's one of the fastest ways to increase your VO2 max. Once youve done hill sprints for a couple of weeks youll feel like a gazelle on flat land.
No hills for me to be running living in South Florida, but I agree hills are a great idea. Going to school in Atlanta, I did hills every couple weeks and they suck but they really do improve your running ability, especially for the shorter runs such as the PRT. It's a great way to improve the strength in your legs without lifting weights (in addition to air squats, lunges, etc.)

Here is some old school advice from someone who is really old (59) but can still run a sub 21 min 3 mile and can do 40 non kip pull ups. Set your alarm for 0430, put your running shoes on and go outside and run for 20 minutes. Then turn around and try to get home under 20 minutes. Always run the last 100 yards as fast as you can no matter how much it hurts. You should be going further and further each run. A 10 minute mile is called walking.

For all the future board threads (which none of us will be a part of ;)): Have one or two people in charge of adding information to the spreadsheet, lock it to everyone else, and post your scores and results in the thread. Something must be happening with all these different types of computers accessing the spreadsheet that keeps messing it up. WRT this thread agriz, you can probably lock it now. Everyone has already submitted to the board.

I wanted to avoid locking down the permissions so I wouldn't have to add things myself but it ended up that way anyway...

If you guys want to protect your legs, wear the insole gels that you can get at cvs or Walgreens like Dr. Scholls. I had shin splints in middle school and it forced me to quit practice when it got so bad. The gel protects your legs by reducing the pounding your feet take up on each step (and since we will be running on concrete for long periods of time, it’s a good investment.). Good luck to everyone!
Another way to decrease injury (shin splints) while running is to run on the balls of your feet. It’s not as easy as heel to toe, but it’s much more natural. It kind of switches some of the strain from your shins to your calves. Imagine you’re running on a hard surface barefoot, hitting the heel first would hurt.

This reminds me of a story:
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I was in high school. One day a troubled minded individual thought it would be fun to try and shut down all the public bathrooms in the school by ANONYMOUSLY scooping their own feces out of the toilet and spreading it around the bathroom walls and floors. I will say I discovered the atrocities once and it has forever scarred my mind for life. Who knew so much poop could come out of such a little person. Finally when we only had one bathroom left and it was the final stand the school got smart and put cameras up at every bathroom entrance. Soon after, they caught the miscreant, if you’de like to say ....... Brown Handed. Forever there forth that troubled young person was known as the POOP BANDIT. I wish I could say this story isn’t true but unfortunately it is.

No idea how this relates to our current situation just thought the annimimity was a good relation. Maybe turn off the ability to be anonymous?

Not to one up you or anything but my first college had a courtyard pooper...and he must have been smarter/savvier than a mere high school poop bandit because that guy...got away with it.

I guess that answers the life long question that with age comes wisdom and wisdom is better than youthfulness. Or atleast in the anonymous poopers realm?
