Honestly, sometimes I feel like the worst advice I ever got regarding this process was to apply for OCS as a civilian rather than enlist and apply for OCS later. For most people I'd say it's good advice, but for me it's left my family waiting forever for the medical benefits they desperately need. And with how slow things are right now, I could've enlisted, gone to basic, gone to A school, gotten LASIK, started my first assignment, and applied for OCS in the same amount of time it's taken me to get to board (which I still haven't haha).

And I know I'm probably completely wrong with my analysis but the longer and longer this drags out the more and more I wish I had enlisted last year haha.
It may feel like that, but the hoops you need to jump through depending on the CO can cause headaches, I worked with several over the years that came in with degrees and never were able to get commissioned while in.

Long time lurker, but I’m going to contribute to getting our page count to 200. On top of anxiety from awaiting results, we just welcomed our first some son to the world yesterday morning at 9:19! The sleep deprivation of assisting my wife with delivery and now postpartum has definitely helped with passing the time. Best of luck to everyone on this board! Hopefully our results will get here soon enough!

congratulations the stress of being a parent will get better never! In all seriousness there is nothing more rewarding to me than being a parent and I say this as my kids are for some reason up after midnight and laughing hysterically.

Like exnavyoffrec said, as an enlisted you need COs recommendation and multiple interviews with officers. If you are brand new into the navy you probably arent going to get great endorsements because they want you to get qualified. Once you're enlisted, you're now an asset that the command needs and they want to see you put in effort before branching off to different paths like OCS. Point is don't get down on yourself, typically it is an easier process for civilians than enlisted to apply for OCS. I'm glad to see you back on here, and still pursuing this. Hopefully all your med stuff gets cleared before the next board!

Congrats!! We are expecting #2. Our fist was a girl, expecting a boy in October. It’s difficult, but watching them grow and develop is one of the most amazing things.

I got a text from my recruiter earlier …

It was just him confirming that the August board was canceled and that I need to pray that I squeaked into the May board. ?
Is this real? I almost don’t want to believe anything without an official statement or something ?

I know you guys are right which is why I don't get too upset about it. I just feel the pressure because my family really does need this to work out.

For what it's worth I also received a text from my recruiter telling me August was cancelled. Although in my case he was telling me to encourage me since I missed the deadline haha
