Hey y'all!
Have some questions for those currently ROM'ing. If it's easier, feel free to PM me. And thanks in advance!!

1. Pay and Benefits: I already saw that you do start getting paid on day 1 of ROM; however, what about BAH and Tricare? Do these start day 1 of ROM or not until day 1 of INDOC?

2. Packing for ROM: What are you allowed to bring for ROM'ing? What are you not allowed to bring? What, if anything, did you wish you brought and/or brought more of? Did you bring an extra suitcase just for ROM? My recruiter told me storage space is very limited so I shouldn't bring a lot of "civies."

3. ROM'ing: What is a "day in the life" while ROM'ing? I know there's a couple PT sessions per day. But, is the rest of the time spent up to you? Or, do they begin the "classroom" work like what I've read about Great Lakes?

I'm just a spouse, but my husband, Julian, did tell me a lot of this info while he was in ROM.

1. Yes to BAH and Tricare as of day 1

2. You're allowed to bring things to entertain yourself like books, switch, etc. Julian only brought what he wore up there as far as civilian clothes, and the rest of what he packed was PT clothing. He said he's very glad that we packed him extra socks and underwear because you only get to do laundry every 3 days, and his stuff smelled after 1 PT session. Having 2 PT sessions a day creates a rather smelly situation if you don't have clean things to change into. All of this stuff he put in his "lucky bag" when ROM ended and indoc began.

3. 2 PT sessions per day and 3-4 moodle modules (online learning). Julian told me that he had trouble getting onto the provided computer for the first 4 days, and he wished he'd brought his laptop. His roommate did and got his work in much faster. Julian usually finished with his modules plus studying (I can't remember which acronym he used, but it's basically a Navy 101 book that they give you day 1) around 6pm.

I hope some of that is helpful! When are you going up?

Caveat to the BAH is you need to have dependents, ie married, kids, or a dependent parent. They will not give you BAH if they are providing you a place to stay.

I spoke with my recruiter today. I’m in the 29NOV20 Class as well.

If you guys haven’t already, please join the group chat I shared. It will be helpful for us to stay in touch while some of us are in ROM. Also, let’s keep the google spreadsheet updated. It’s useful information for the future boards.

I tried to turn my row green and put in my info, but it kicked back as view-only.

So it looks as though Pilots are getting most of the open slots for ship dates to OCS which is completely understandable seeing as how there are way more Pilot going through OCS at any given time then NFO's. I will keep you guys updated in the event I hear anything back and then update the excel spreadsheet to help future SNFO's to get an idea of how long it takes for us to get a date.

Alright, I know I've been slow to comment on this thread, but between workups, and getting deployed I've been pretty swamped. Got selected off the board for SNA. CO requested a January date so I can finish up deployment, and as of now it's looking like they're just now filling the last class for November.
