31OCT22 SNA/SNFO BOARD

It's looking like I probably won't make the deadline for this board.

MEPS responded for the second time this morning and asked for MORE documents and a current Xray of complete healing for a clavicle hairline fracture I had back in 2019. I have to track down that doctor to get records and find somewhere that can Xray my shoulder. I don't have doctor's orders for that though which most places need and don't have a primary care provider to sign off on it for me. Most of these primary care places are weeks if not months out for new patients right now so I won't be able to do that anytime soon.

I'm really hoping some miracle happens and I can submit in time but, as of right now, that possibility keeps seeming further and further out of reach.
I am in that waiting for a non urgent medical check as well, today was 5 months since the doc put in the request, Monday I was told next week they will call me to see when I can be scheduled so who knows how long that will take.

My American history teacher in high school had a picture of the Highway of Death on his bulletin board with the caption “Iraqi rush hour.”

He also had a Garand in the closet in his classroom, if that tells you anything else about him
Your history teacher sounds awesome! My history teacher brought in WWII helmets and other uniform pieces, a disabled Japanese Arisaka rifle, bayonets, and Japanese "good luck flags". She was crazy, and made class freaking awesome!!

That's just an example I googled of a "good luck flag" that Japanese soldiers would take with them to battle. She brought in like 2 or 3 different ones for show and tell.

I know that the people who sign them are friends, family, neighbors, classmates, etc. I am not well versed in Kanji characters, but I know Yama, Da, Ni, Hon, and Go lol

Edit: That specific flag belonged to Eihachi Yamaguchi, so you were right! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Luck_Flag

I found an urgent care center in the area that can do same-day Xrays with no doctor's order but they're wanting $300 out of pocket for it since I don't have health insurance right now. An imaging place is wanting $60 with doctor's order. So it's at the point right now where I'm pretty much paying to have this done sooner.

My recruiter said to contact the old Dr and get the most recent Xray they have of me to submit to MEPS and see if it passes through but, I know they never got an Xray of it completely healed so it will definitely still show some irregularities in my clavicle. I don't want to rely on that just to have MEPS come back and tell me they need one of it being completely healed. Might just bite the bullet and get this done and over with.
dude im goin thru something similar rn. they want documentation from a follow up in 2017 that I never went to. its a headache.

There is an organization in Portland that is working on getting those flags back to the families, at least if there is any living family left.

Best of luck to you man. I'm hoping I'm dealing with the worst of it now so I can just get to my MEPS visit and be done with the medical shit after that. It's so tiring lol
I definitely feel for ya dude. When I initially enlisted back in 2013 I had a few meps run arounds because I had a bunch of documented sports injuries and stuff from when I played hockey that they wanted clarification on. Was a massive pain in the ass. I’m hopeful that since they have my military medical record from when I was in as well as the fact that nothing has changed for me health wise in the last 3 years that I’ll be in and out no problem

Yeah, I saw one news report of a WWII vet who flew to Japan to deliver one of those flags to a soldier's family members after almost 80 years.

I was shocked during my MEPS visit. I have a heart murmur, but got it checked by 3 different cardiologists. All of them said there's nothing wrong, so I go to MEPS thinking I'm going to have to fight over it, but the only thing they were concerned with was my dry skin (WTF are you actually serious?). I got a waiver for dermatitis the next day and I was golden. I'm just praying I'm done with all of that nonsense, but knowing what happens at OCS with the flight physical and everything, I'm probably not out of the woods yet.

Yeah, we're all pursuing a career of what ifs up to NAMI and even if you clear that congrats now you gotta actually be able to get through flight school.

That's probably what I'm the most scared of. Getting past all of this, feeling the excitement of being selected, waiting over a year to get out to OCS, just to get fucked at the flight physical for something that was fine at MEPS or something they didn't necessarily care about. Gives me so much anxiety lol wish they would just do the flight physical before I commit my time to waiting on being shipped.
Mmhm. It's a huge risk. At that point they either reclass you to something else or send your ass home thanks for coming.

If that was to ever happen and I got DQ'd from flying for whatever reason, I would probably be okay just being reassigned and changed to something else. At that point, I've committed too much of my life to this just to go home and try to forget anything ever happened. After all, the main goal is to serve my country... yes, flying for the military would be a dream but, if that can't work out for whatever reason, I'm okay with something else.
For me I’m not sure. I guess it would depend on the reclass. I’d take NFO in a heartbeat if it was possible. Maybe consider aviation ground maintenance officer. However, I’ve already given them 5 years of my young adult life so I’m really in a place of I’m doing this on my terms. I’d probably take the L and go home.
