4 DEC 17 IWC Board

I see two more people from the DC area... interesting.
Not too surprised given the proximity to a lot of three-letter agencies and access to higher-ranking military personnel in the area. Can't speak for everyone here, but I credit a lot of my Y to the LORs/appraisals from higher-ranking officers and multiple summers of D.C. internships.

IWC isn't about who you know or what you do (it is for the DCO program) it is about potential, and potential mostly means high GPA and for IP and CW it also means tech.

LOR's really don't mean much at all unless you have the high GPA, tech degree (for IP and CW), and even then it is about what the person has seen you do over time, not how much smoke a person can blow up their ass in 30 minutes (that is a quote from a person that sat numerous boards)

the new SWO PA has an increased age to 35 I believe, and it is that you cannot apply for the same designator within 6 months without a change in your application.

Odd, I asked my recruiter if I could apply for SWO or NFO sooner and he said it was 6 months for any kind of reapplication. I'll try to dig up the instruction. Thanks for the information.

That's interesting! I did have the high GPA (non-STEM degree) so that might be what got me over the first hurdle; all the officers who wrote LORs had also known me personally or professionally for at least a year or more. Regardless I'm just happy to have been selected

If we are all coming out of the same recruiting office then that shop is killing it.

It was your high GPA, "whole person concept" is some BS that is spouted over and over for OCS but the stats have continued to prove it false, if a person can work hard and earn a high GPA that shows they are trainable.

There was another OR I worked with that had a person picked for Intel at a board who had a 3.9 (about) GPA, the person only went to school, no extra activities at all, that high GPA is a key factor.
What is lowest GPA is that would be considered good/competitive?

3.5 is good, sometimes you see an odd one that gets picked with a 3.0 or something but often you find out they have Master's degree or even PhD.

Several on this board that were picked up had near perfect GPA's.

You are an odd duck, years of statistics have shown what they look for.
I know this is the wrong thread, but my package is submitted for the Jan 2018 IWC DCO board. I have a 3.87 GPA and I am two classes away from having my masters. (will graduate this spring or summer). Applying for Intel/IP/IW. Spoke with a guy at NRC and he said they are selecting around 80 Intel O's this year.

That would be an active number for about all IWC selections, 80 DCO spots for Intel makes no sense, they would have no place to put them.

I have no idea. He specifically said more than normal around 80 Intel. Ive heard that same number from some other people on the DCO thread. Guess we'll find out in a month or so
