Not if you are selected to be part of the NSW community. I, for one, do not know the ins/outs for Officer selection for NSW but if the selection process for enlisted is comparable, I hope you are an athlete.

Edit: actually, yes you did now that I had time to think about it. The military would have provided that training for free :)

Pretty sure he was joking, knowing a few people in the NSW community, the Intel officers they knew didn't go into the field, briefed them out, briefed them in, that is all.

Intel O’s are seen as generalists, and are moved around as such. So if you get to support NSW at some point, it will not be for a whole career - it may only be one tour. Intel O’s do not get SEAL training, but in order to screen for a unit they do have to pass the SEAL physical screening test minimums. Bottom line, if you truly want to do SEAL stuff, apply for 1130 not 1830.

Unless you go to DEVGRU, then I hear the O's get to do some school stuff. But I agree, at a vanilla team the O's don't do much, at least they didn't back when I was in and supporting the teams.

Congratulations!

My recruiter just contacted me as well. PRO REC - N for INTEL. Devastated. However, I will not give up and will resubmit again. I cannot think of anything else I can do to improve my INTEL package other than obtaining a higher OAR score. Probably have to rewrite my motivational statement as well.

Don’t give up. I don’t know what the heck the board is looking for, given what I was selected for, but I believe in you. I wish I had some advice to give. I have no idea why they selected me. But I wish you the best. Thank you for your kind words and well wishes.

Yes, I know. I was under the impression only people with very high OAR scores and computer science degrees got IP. I’m very surprised, but I am extremely grateful. I feel like this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone with a non-tech degree get selected for IP..

I have seen a few, but it was very high GPA, the OAR doesn't really matter, however OAR often follows GPA, so high GPA generally means high OAR.

I had one non tech picked IP, he had lots of calc and calc based physics in his background but was still considered non tech.

OAR doesn't mean much, you need to do something tangible like start a Masters program.

Your GPA is above average so that is a plus, but the sheer number of non tech degrees that apply mean that a blind man throwing a dart has a better change of hitting the board than a person submitting for Intel.

Hmm. Interesting! The highest level of mathematics I completed at the collegiate level was pre-calculus trigonometry. I guess there just is NO telling what the board is looking for. I believe in the “whole person concept” now more than ever. It must have been my GPA that got me past the tech hurdle. Whatever the reason, I am grateful!

Do you know anything about the statistics of this board yet? I don’t know if recruiters get that information or if only the board knows.
