Sounds like your recruiter crapped the bed giving you that advice. I got a 63 5/6/5 my first time and my OR told me to take it again. Being below the average accepted scores should be a giant red flag as to where you stand. Best of luck going forward man!

I hate to be a dick, but your OAR being subpar did you in. Your package stops at GPA and ASTB. All the other stuff you listed is useless for the aviation board. You just have to get your OAR up, plain and simple. If you're looking for an explanation, that's it. Of course your recruiter told you that you're a shoe in. His job is to try to pump as many people into the navy as possible, and he isn't going to tell you that your scores aren't good enough. Just study, get the scores up, and go for round two at the next board.

I’m going to guess that wherever the cut line was, you were crazy close to getting picked up. The good news is you get to boost those scores and try again. This is literally my only shot..

This may be true. But if you couple a pretty low OAR with below average ASTB scores, you'e just asking for trouble.

I know, it's bitter sweet in the sense i'm so close and missed it but, at least i know the benchmark. Could be worse, I know guys from my class still finishing an ATC undergrad... A degree that can be done in 2 years if you put some giddy up on it. Looks like you're sitting pretty safe with a 55 7/8/7. Wouldn't worry too much about your status if you haven't heard yet.

Hey man, sorry to hear that you missed the mark this time around, but as you know with shooting ILS practice approaches you can always go around! That being said, I've been working on an aviation commission for over two years. This is my first time getting selected, so go retake that exam and apply again!

Thanks, I appreciate the support. Maybe I’ll become an alcoholic and go fly for the Regionals in the meantime. Allegiant would be pretty fun to fly for, they’re averaging 2 inflight emergencies a week with their birds.

Lol, don't go drink your problems away. When you wake up nothing will have changed. Look this advise goes out to you and everyone else that hasn't been selected or won't be selected this round. Here we go. Nothing worth having in life is ever easy. I enlisted at 17 and spent eight years in Marine Aviation units around the United States. While on Active Duty, I made it a priority to complete my degree and earn my private ticket. I've been applying for commissions in the Marines and the Navy for over two years. I also competed for a commission in the Airforce National Guard. This is the first aviation commission I've be accepted for. The big take away from my story is that persistence is key. Study hard before that next ASTB and find other ways to strengthen your application. I realize that we all want to fly in the Navy, but know that commissioning in any other service is a great honor and shouldn't be taken lightly. So reapply this next cycle, and look for other commissioning opportunities. Best of luck.
