I’m in this same boat. I asked this question to my recruiter and he basically said “finsel is final, you have to go to that OCS unless you’re injured or very sick with a doctor’s note.”

I’m mostly worried they’re going to send me a finsel letter for the Mar18 class with a week and a half notice like Meyerkord. I have two jobs to give notice for, a dog to rehome, a lease to cancel, furniture to sell, and a plethora of other affairs to handle before I can up and move to Rhode Island, so 4-5 weeks notice would be greatly preferable.

Can anyone confirm or deny what mke07 said? I want to believe him over my recruiter but I’m skeptical.

I cannot confirm or deny anything because Big Navy seems to change on a daily basis, but I have seen it happen on multiple boards in the past where they give you a FINSEL for a date with little notice. Someone here had one, but had to postpone because of a wedding. I'm not sure if they were trying to get them to ship early or not (without the FINSEL), but either way, the best thing to do would be to get started in making preparations early, especially now that you have a PRO-REC.

Line someone up to take the dog, even though you don't need to give it away yet. Canceling a lease is easy with military orders. I just finished doing it yesterday. You don't need to sell everything - the Navy will move your stuff around for you (even if you have to put it in storage for a little while). Let your jobs know that you got accepted, even without a FINSEL. Some people will argue with me on this one, but if you're on good terms with your employers, let them know this is happening and that there's a 99% chance you'll be leaving in the near future. They already know you applied if you mentioned them on your SF-86 :)

I agree, more time to prep would be awesome, but that isn't the way the cookie crumbles for this. Best thing to do is just be as prepared as you can be.

Agree with this 100%. It’s an absolute certainty that you are going to be leaving. And probably sooner rather than later. You have all the answers to the test per se, you just need to prepare accordingly so you won’t be the one that is surprised. If you fail to prepare early enough, Murphy’s gonna get ya

Sound advice. My mother will take my pup, although she is in another state which is a hassle, my employers have been notified, although they still request two weeks final notice so they can better prepare, my furniture is adequate but not something I’d want to worry about storing when I can sell it or donate it if need be, and my lease is slightly more complicated because if my landlord company doesn’t let me roommate out of it as well I could not in good conscience leave them to pay full rent on their own without finding a subleaser, or aiding in the payments somehow.

Although I’m excited, the idea of last minute orders is very stressful. The fact that you’ve been able to take your last minute orders in stride is very impressive to me.

First time writing on here, but I’m on this website everyday for info so I figured it’s only fair that I post my results.

Just received a call from my recruiter I got a PRO-REC Y for NFO. Just waiting for my FINSEL now. In case anyone is curious my credentials are below.

Applied: NFO, SWO, INTEL
Age: 23
Major: Biology
GPA: 2.9
ASTB: 53 5/6/6

I took the OAR originally and scored a 55. The results above are from taking the full ATSB the second time around. Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear back!

It was pretty easy for me, but my situation is different than yours. I'm young, single, live alone, no pets, don't own much, have an employer that understands my situation, and live 10 miles from my parents, so I'm lucky enough to be able to pick up and move with the wind. If I was in your shoes, though, it would probably be a little different. Your stress and concern is definitely understandable.

I tried putting together the most up-to-date set of Appendix B flashcards based on OTCNINST 1530-6J, which I believe is the the most current version of that document. I tried to phrase all of the questions in a format similar to how a DI would scream them at you, and I made sure to use the exact verbiage from the document, because I know they can be assholes about that. These cover the Big 4 (code of conduct, general orders, marine/navy insignias/ranks, and about half of the chain of command since we learn the rest once we get there) and I threw the sailor's creed in there too.

Happy to post on here for the first time.

Been looking at the aviation board threads for about a year and a half now. This was my 4th board and I got the call on Friday that I'm in for SNA.

It's been a long time of waiting. I don't think it's quite sunk in yet. Looking forward to knowing my class date soon and look forward to all of you who will be there with me.
