I think your major matters quite a bit if it comes down to them actually reviewing your application and not just typing in the scores. Just logically thinking, they'd want someone with a STEM major over someone with underwater basket weaving no matter what the GPA is. Also maybe the school you went to? I guarantee they look at someone different that went to Harvard rather than some small college no ones ever heard of. (Very extreme spectrum but it gets the point across.) @mke07 could probably attest to this, the freshman courses for MIT physics majors are basically senior thesis courses at some other schools.

This is all just opinion, no fact.

Also doesn't your own recruiter write you an LOR through your references? You never see that LOR and I bet they take that pretty seriously. Perfect example why, anytime you come in contact with your recruiter you should treat it like an interview and always be respectful.

Physics majors all take the same Undergrad schedule. It's honestly just the availability of resources at the university that differ and why kids get published when they go to a place like MIT or Cal Tech. Resources and reognition. As long as you aren't aplying out of a community college, school shouldn't really matter.

Major does matter and I agree with that. The other really good point you made is your recruiter's reference. People tend to downplay it, but your recruiter reference had to be in the "Extremely Good" category for you to be eligible for the auto select process. So that may be an issue as well.

So typical. My clearance just went inactive so screw me I guess. Have to wait for this to be sorted out until I can get orders.

Congrats to all who have been selected. I'm starting to realize this is no walk in the park and a great achievement. Unfortunately, I did not get picked up for NFO this board. Pretty surprising and my recruiter only told me that not many were selected. Stats below:

Age: 23
Degree: Int'l Affairs
GPA: 3.55
Test scores: 60, 7/6/8
LORs: 2 retired O-6s, professor, past employer

Best of luck to you Aviators. I am still in for the upcoming SWO board however.

Wtf? Mine expires next year. Any idea how long that'll take?

Speaking of Murphy,
I've been sitting on a six figure income offer for two months while waiting for the February board. Just found out my kit was submitted a day late and I don't go to board until May. I was willing to decline six figures for OCS...not sure I can do it for a "maybe". The job will go to someone else if I don't make a decision soon and confirm that the navy is off the table. Simply taking the job and jumping ship isn't an option either...aviation is too small to pull stunts like that and the director is a buddy that I served with. So now I have to decide if it's worth making significant sacrifices to my career for just a board.

Prior service (Coast Guard helicopter search and rescue, 6 years)

BS Aeronautics, 3.3
Master Business Admin in Aviation, 3.7
FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics license

Why can’t you take the job and then if you get selected for Pilot put in your two weeks and go to OCS?

Because that would completely screw over my director, which is a buddy from the Coast Guard. And the company is aware of my situation. They're not making any moves until the navy is completely off the table because of the amount of money they're planning on spending to send me to training.

Woah is that true? Can anybody attest to this?
