A Word on OCS (as of 2 DEC 16)

Apparently yes. All SNAs from my class got 13 weeks of OHARP and the word is to expect another 2-3 month wait in A-pool. NFOs are going straight down to Pcola and pretty much starting immediately.

Rooms are shared between 2 people with their own head and sink, and then two rooms share two showers. Personal cell phone use is not authorized until Candio phase begins in the middle of week 9. Weeks 1-3 you're restricted to sending and receiving letters, after RLP you get a 15 minute phone call each weekend/holiday and have access to email. Either way I would be prepared for 9 weeks of not a whole lot of contact.

Thank you for your quick response. I appreciate the info. Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas Everyone!! Quick question on watches: 1. Do we only get to use them during Candio? 2. What type/brand of watch is recommended for OCS? Thanks!

I wanted to do OHARP as an NFO, Kind of planned on it, do you know if we get to if want to?

Authorized after week 3 for the whole class, whenever you can convince the supply body candio to open up the lucky bag room and get approval from class team. Your big 4 billets will have their watches after week 1 (I think I got mine back that Sunday).

I recommend something waterproof, durable, cheap , and smaller. Bigger ones can be a pain when you are doing 6-90s. You want an alarm setting on it as well that you are familiar with. I wore a 20 dollar Armitron, but the face was a bit too large, and I got in the habit of taking it off before RPTs whenever I could.

Don't spend more that $30 on a watch. It's going to get trashed in the sand pit.

Just get a Casio G-Shock. A dual time-zone will help you later, but not required overall. I've taken my G-Shocks through multiple deployments, SERE, and who knows what else, and the only that kills them is a dying battery and a dude in the strip mall who doesn't know how to replace said battery (and even then, only after you get it wet).

Thanks for the great gouge guys!

I have quite a few pairs of perfect NWUs I was planning to bring with me. The white tags have writing on them and was planning on just tearing them off. However, I assume that is where we will have to mark our uniforms. Can you give me some clarification on this? If that is where the stenciling goes, I'll just buy new ones at uniform issue.

Can you start using protein powder in candio phase?

Protein powder/bars are prohibited at all times, whether they come in your candio box or not. That was the information provided to me when I asked about it. In order to get permission to have protein powder/bars, a special request chit is required. Unless you are rail thin you probably won't get it.

When i went through last year, our class team was pretty relaxed about it. We were able to get a special lib chit in our Officer candidate phase. Ohhhh, and no one ever looked at what came in our candio boxes. However, things may have changed.

Doubtful, word my class got is that the Navy is very undermanned for NFOs and is pushing them through the pipeline as fast as they can make them (the guys in my class down there now are jumping SNAs who have been OHARPing/stuck A-pool for over 5 months).

Don't rip anything off or label anything until you get there, each class/class team will prep their stuff for RLP a different way and you don't want to be that guy/gal who forces a change because you've done it a different way already. Don't worry you will have plenty of time to prep you stuff when you get there, focus on studying your Big 5, working out, and enjoying your free time before the suck.
