Good evening y'all. This is my first post. I'm graduating with my B.A. in History in a few days from Gardner-Webb University. I've got a 3.92 GPA, and I'll be a graduate of the Honors Program and be Summa Cum Laude. I'm an Eagle Scout with Sliver Palm, among other things.

My question to y'all is . . . what do I need to score on the ASTB to secure my desired path of SNA? Does anyone have a clue? And, how likely am I to get in with my credentials. I'm getting 5-6 LOR's, 2 from Professors, 1 from a boss/friend who is Chief of Police and former Coast Guard, 1 from an Army MAJ, and 1-2 from Close Family Friends. Is that going to suffice?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

First tip: using "Y'all" frequently, especially when typing on this forum, will not get you anywhere. As a fellow history major (albeit with a much lower GPA and no fancy palms on my eagle medal) I'm saddened by your writing quality.. :banghead_

But I keed.. Mostly.

You've come to the right place for advice, man. Your scores look solid. I didn't go the OCS route, so I can't offer anything constructive. Good luck though!

go marines. haha. you have the chance to get a guaranteed aviation spot which is not really the case with navy...least i dont think so... but you just need to be competetive. I cant really tell you what that would mean...specially for navy

And what other route is there for college grads besides OCS?

people would kill me for answering this instead of telling you to "use the search button", but there is PLC (2 6 week sessions), OCC (1 10 week after graduation, which would work for you), Naval Academy, and NROTC. Therefore, for college grads there really isnt anything besides OCC...unless im forgetting something.

And yall is fine. Actually I just noticed that your from North Carolina-PM me if you decide to seriously think about the Marines, I can call the OSO for you and give you his number...all that jazz.

He hasn't mentioned them bc you cant still do them if you're about to graduate. And no, none of them are ostensibly better than any other ones. OCC is fine, Im doin plc myself but thats because im young. Its basically the same thing though. You said your recruiter...I hope your talking officer recruiter?

How is the Navy different in terms of "guaranteed" flight slots? AFAIK, you sign for SNA or NFO before you go to OCS for either service...

There is no difference, just a slight lack of knowledges. But that's what we're all here for right? To increase our knowledges.

The Navy has guaranteed flight contracts for BDCP and OCS. When you apply for either of those programs you apply to a specific community. Since you are a college graduate your only option would be OCS whether you decide to go Marines or Navy. The main difference, other than the attitude of the communities, is that Marines attend TBS following OCS. So you have about a 6 month wait between OCS and the start of API. Just search around the website, all of this has been discussed before.
