THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT API

Before API:
Find something fun to do. Don’t worry about studying before you start. While I was there, it was changed so you could only pick up your pubs within two weeks of your start date. That’s more than enough time. Put them in your bathroom and flip through them while you’re in there. Do that and you should be prepared. If you try to pre-study or make flashcards or anything, the problem is that there may be six or eight paragraphs talking about one learning objective and you don’t know what to focus on. Just wait until you get to class and you’ll see what’s important.

I highly recommened getting a job and that way you can get some extra money. I waited in A pool for about three months and then I waited in NFO C-pool for another 4 so there is alot of down time and its easy to find a small job to keep you busy and make some extra money

Be careful picking up a second job; I believe you have to have permission for one and it would be a stupid thing to get in trouble over.

It happens dude. Trust me. Just enjoy the time you're off. I can say from experience that once the firehose starts, they NEVER turn it off. NEVER.

"Forwarded, recommended approval."

Don't complain, man. The Corps will get hers in due time - she'll take more from you than you think you can possibly give. In the meantime, you just take the paid vacation whenever you can. It's pretty much limited to when you are in a Navy school, anyway - and it won't last forever!

I wouldn't worry about startup time for NFO's (on the Marine Corps side of the house anyway). I just checked into MATSG-21 last week and was asked "if Friday was O.K." to start (as in Friday of that week). Pissed some pilot wannabes off in the background pretty bad who happened to overhear- they said they've been waiting for months. Wow. Anyway, if nothing else, NFO's are classing up pretty damn quick.

Latest gouge I heard it was 2-3 months for Navy SNFOs...this comes from a LT in VT-10, last week. Regardless, I'm going to enjoy my downtime.

I got 4-5 SNA friends in P-cola who have been waiting since Sept/Oct to class up. The one bought a boat he was so bored.

Expect a pretty sizeable wait if you're waiting for API right now. Regardless of service.

How bought after API? Any word on how long it is taking AF studs to start VT-3?

BTW...just curious...Where do AF studs go for life support gear, in particular helmets. Are we issued Navy helmets and then have to return them upon completion of Primary?

Peace,

Hey by the way, any one who's been there, during API, (or Primary/ Int. for that matter), are students allowed to fly home for 96's (via out of bounds chit etc.)? Or are you held to the 400 or 500 mile radius? Also, what is the class up time for primary like after API (specifically NFO?) Thanks for any gouge.
