NavyOffRec,

When do you think you will be able to look up people's names on the pro rec list when the board is done?

I will have to send them to a friend of mine at the NRD, but one of them is out due to medical so not sure how quick the turn around will be.

Ok, how long will it take for recruiters to start contacting us about the results? 2 weeks? So like Dec 17?

It really depends how long the board takes, generally they take a week, then the list is organized into some order that varies each time, then it goes to the senior member for signature, then it is released, so in general 2 weeks from board meeting.

My OR told me this board was going to release early - I don't know if that means they are going to convene early or if they are just going to speed things up once they meet. I had originally been told 12/14 or 12/17, but now hopefully sooner. Let's hope he's right, I'd like to know ASAP, especially with this "we-want-to-send-you-all-to-OCS-in-January" stuff that has been floating around.

Received this answer from my OR in NRD Denver which pretty much mirrors what everybody else, as well as, NavyOffRec has been saying. "The board convenes on December 3rd, depending on the amount of applications that are submitted it can take up to one to two weeks to receive the results."

OR told me board meets on the 3rd of December and finishes on the 15 of December. He told me to call him on the 15th if I have not yet heard from him by then. Holiday Stand-down is on December 18.

Frankly, I am nervous like no other. I am a time critical applicant and due to that situation, this board is my first and only shot at this awesome opportunity. First time I took the ASTB I scored 6/5/5 54. My OR decided to move forward with my package and told me to keep studying for the ASTB. Not a week before my packet was to be sent to the board, I was sitting in front of a computer retaking the ASTB (second attempt). Knowing that I had went to MEPS, completed my application, etc. my entire application was hanging on a computerized test. Got 6/6/7 54 and I am still convinced it wasn't good enough. 2 weeks or so left until I find out. PT and girlfriend help keep the stress down...

If I recall correctly from elsewhere, you're a fellow hopeful-PhD dropout as well, so I'd imagine your GPA is much better than a lot of applicants, which well help. My ASTB score is similar (54, 6/7/6) but I'm glad that my 7 was on my PFAR since SNA is my first choice.

It seems like a lot of us are getting conflicting gouge on the board timing. NavyOffRec has said in the past that some NRDs are really bad about passing on info to the recruiters, so I wouldn't be shocked if some of our ORs weren't told about this. My OR originally said that only pilots were going to get early decisions (so if I get SNFO instead, I'd find out around the 15th) which might explain some of the conflict if people on here are not applying for SNA. I emailed my OR about it last night since I need to get a leave of absence rolling at school in case I get NAMI-whammied or something, and I don't want to have to show up right we go into our holiday break and say "hey, I'm not coming back next semester!" If he sheds any light on the situation I'll pass it on to you all.

What is the NAMI Whammy you speak of? I have heard it mentioned before... Medical disqualification?

Can't wait to know if I'm pro-rec or not!!

I just spoke with my OR yesterday and he informed me they were going to push out SNA applicants faster than normal with still the possibility of January class dates has he initially stated. He told me he had received that information from his boss at the NRD.

The NAMI Whammy is a medical DQ for aviation related things. Sometimes it means re-designating from SNA to SNFO (typically vision), or redesignating to something else altogether if the problem is more severe. It normally connotes the shock of being hit by a problem that you had no idea existed. Use the search function and you can find out more about when and why it happens, as well as what happens afterwards.

I've got a question that I don't think I've seen on the board. On my APSR, I marked that my earliest OCS availability date would be 01-March-13. Would that make me a less tasty pilot candidate because I couldn't zip right into an early OCS date, or does your availability date only affect the date you go (and not your selection likelihood)?

NavyOffRec said that we will have to submit something in writing saying that you can go earlier if the opportunity is presented.

I had marked 6/1 because I'm still in school (but willing to leave) and didn't want to have to leave in the middle of the semester if this was a normal timeline. I also have school funding stuff that complicates things more. I figured that if anything, the board would either be on time or pushed back, and previous threads suggested the earliest we could go was march. When my OR found out about this timeline, he emailed me and said "Is this ok?" as if to imply I had some say in it. I told him that 1/6 would be extremely difficult but possible, and that 1/27 would be fine. He said "I'll call chief so-and-so and let him know."

I would imagine that it shouldn't hurt you as they try to fill classes throughout the year - but NavyOffRec would be the guy to ask about this. However, he doesn't see anyone from this board going to OCS in January.
