6 years prior service Coast Guard, Aviation Electronics Technician 3rd Class, HU-25 Falcon Sensor Systems Operator, 711.7 flight hours
OAR 58, 7/7/8 -bad eyes so going for SWO
3.95 GPA BA in History from Bridgewater State University, MA
PAT: currently at 'Good' standards on all
letters from 2 former CO's (an O-4 and an O-8), and the Coast Guard's Chief of Strategic Communication (O-5)
Phoenix native and current Mass. resident.

hopefully hearing good news from the December board: told to possibly be prepared for 06 Jan class.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that they might send some folks in as soon as 06 Jan. Do you already have a security clearance and stuff? I wouldn't be surprised if they sent people earlier who have certain things already sorted out.

EDIT: Oh, you are going SWO. Interesting, I was told that this early OCS stuff was going to be for pilot applicants only, and that NFO wasn't going to get me out the door so quickly.

I am wondering why you took the full ASTB if you were only going for SWO? your recruiter should have just had you take the OAR unless you were going to try for NFO.

Odds are you don't have to be ready for Jan 6th, by the time the board is done there will be no time to get letters out, they are supposed to be out 4 weeks prior to OCS, if that class isn't full in the next week or so the director of OCS accessions will be sweating like crazy.

You have real good stats.

I thought it was really short notice too, but an LT from NRD New England called and told me to be prepared to be front-loaded into the 06 January Class. I was definitely surprised: I had understood there were only a dozen or so SWO spots left open for the FY. I feel good about my stats, but I'm not confident enough to start packing my bags and digging out my ribbon bar just yet. We'll see. Thanks.

I wanted to see if anyone else had problems with the infamous depth perception box at MEPS? I'm going for SNA and I really had a hard time on the Depth perception portion of the eye exam. I saw he marked failed on the sheet but nothing else was mentioned about it and they ended up recommending me for ADHD and PRK waivers and everything seemed good to go. Any ramifications for a failed depth perception test at MEPS for SNA?

NRD NE is an interesting place that is notorious (infamous should I say) for being less than stellar with their applicants, there are several here that missed board a few months ago because of NRD NE's incompetance.

N3M will NPQ you for SNA, you will need to get a civilian eye doc to pass you, and then hope you pass at OCS.

Do they redo the entire physical at OCS for all fields or just SNA/NFO? Reason being is because I failed the color vision test at MEPS (barely) but Navy medicine didn't say anything about it, cleared me, and my package went up for the SWO board. To my knowledge SWO needs color vision so I was a little confused. My recruiter said if Navy medicine didn't say anything about it, it wasn't a problem.

Use the search function and you'll probably find loads on depth perception, as well as ADHD and PRK should you run in to problems with those.

Not a problem for him, he isn't the one that could be redesignated at OCS, I have seen people cleared by N3M then the issue was found at OCS and the problem "corrected" doesn't matter if the USN missed it, you pay the price, so either get documentation saying you can pass color vision or get ready for being Supply, this is why your OR never should have sent you thru MEPS.

Not to derail the thread or contradict anything NavyOffRec said, but what color test did you do? If you failed the Ishihara (reading numbers in a blurb of dots) but then passed the FALANT (ID-ing colored lights coming out of a box on the other side of the room) you're ok for color vision. You just have to pass one of them for SNA/SNFO, so I couldn't imagine SWO being stricter on that.

very true, my concern is MEPS would not tell a person they failed if they passed one, now if MEPS failed to administer both test that could be an issue.

I did the color dots thing but I didn't do a "colored lights coming out of a box on the other side of the room" test at MEPS.

It makes me very curious as to exactly how many spots need to be filled in the January class, or even how many SWO's the Navy wants through OCS through the next year. IS there anywhere to find the exact program quotas for FY13 and FY14?
