Applying to the March 2013 Board

I wouldn't try to prove that, said that so you guys knew all the information. As long as I don't get disqualified for something small like having a prescription for something I never even got then I'm fine. It just seems like everywhere I look online someone has a different opinion on the whole inhaler issue. Some say that no matter how old you were or what you got an inhaler for you get DQ'd. While others say that pretty much anything is waiverable, even Asthma, which I find hard to believe. I just wanted to get a current explanation on the topic from a place I consider pretty credible.

It really depends on the doc, I have had people cleared by N3M that had asthma symptoms as a child that went to OCS for SNA or SNFO and then later on NAMI DQ's them for flight, others have zero issues and are in flight school now, sometimes it makes my head hurt wondering what goes on with these docs.

I've never had any asthma issues or even any medical records saying I do, unless an Albuterol prescription would be considered an asthma symptom. There isn't much sense in worrying about it I guess. I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Howdy, I am applying for the 19 march supply board. Question in regards to LORs -- I have 9 individuals that I have requested LORs from, all very respectable, learned people; two O-5 Army, O-5 Navy (suppo), professor\academic advisor, high school principal, grade school principal, and my three prior managers, one being the dean of my university. With that being said, my concern is that this will come off as "over-kill." Is there some sort of standard in terms of the number of LORs to submit? I ask because I have noticed applicants across various threads typically submit around 3-6 LORs. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Can you apply to OCS if you have not completed your degree? I have everything done for my package and will finish in March.

I can just say what I was advised by both my processor and recruiter is that you should shoot for around 6 quality letters. I would say once you collect all the letters bring them to your processor/recruiter and select the best 6. Remember the letters are meant to reflect people that know you well, high titles do not do anything unless they know you personally. However, I have never heard of a limit so feel free to submit all but maybe talk with you recruiter about limiting it to the best. Good luck!

Also applying for this board; 2.99 (tech) GPA, 8/7/8/71, LoRs from employer, prof, and volunteer coordinator. If they do end up using the quality/NQ metric I hope they take my transcript into account (~1.5GPA first 3 semesters, don't think I had a semester <3.0 after that).

With any luck I will see the lot of you in OCS sooner rather than later!

Great, thanks for the advice. I should have mentioned that they do all know me personally and that I did not just ask because of their title. I will probably axe a few nonetheless.

I have been told it's all about quality not quantity, also it's better if they have seen you in action and they know you personally.

Since your AD what does the 1420 say? Those not on AD can but some commands for those on AD have given pushback, if the 1420 says yes, they go for it, if no than you cannot, and if it says nothing at all submit and see what happens.

Edit: I just looked at the 1420 and it says AD members "must possess" a Bachelors, so it is possible your command will not let it go through, or NRC could send it back as well.

I also just found more wrong things in the 1420!

That really depends on the doc, I would say most I have seen just would not worry about something like that, in a few cases I have seen them wanting further info.

If you have a processor that is "by the book" then they are required to submit all that are received, luckily most use common sense, now if you are going for SNA/SNFO then your ASTB score will weigh more than LOR's.

Alcon,

I was informed by my OR to submit for the March SWO board. I had recently applied to the HR DCO board and was a non-select due to the fact I missed a portion of the PA anyway. I am currently debating submitting a SWO application due to the fact I will be graduating in September with my Masters in Health Care Administration. Is it possible to put on my APSR A date to attend OCS after sept 30 or will that hinder my chances of Selection? If it is possible and Selected would a lateral transfer to MSC be possible in the SWO community?

Any insight it greatly appreciated.

Yea they really need to update the 1420 it's vague in a lot of areas! Well my command did let me submit my package and I got a letter from my college stating that I am in my last semester, anticipated grad date and current GPA so keeping my fingers crossed that's enough!

My OR said to send 3 that with the number of applicants they get they do not bother reading more than the top three LOR's and that you should focus on sending your best 3 the caveat for that was if you have five O-7's falling over them selves to write you a LOR then by all means but that extra letters most of all those who do not know you in a professional setting were not worth sending.
