I don't understand. The federal government cannot charge people for services?they can't charge people its the federal government.
I have heard of many people passing the depth perception test the second time. My recruiter and others here have questioned the reliability of the depth perception test at MEPS, so I'm not going to give up so easily.like navoffrec said and I'm sure the optometrist tech can vouch as well, if you didn't meet standards at meps chances are the second go around won't be passed either.
NFO, and I believe SWO even though I didn't apply to it.what other designators were you selected for?
Nice.Active duty people wondering about FS timeline,
I was Pro-rec'd from the April IDC board and just got my final select letter and OCS class date.
IW Pro-Rec - 17 Apr (although results didn't post to BOL for two weeks)
Final Select - 17 May
OCS - 8 July
Nice.
I got pro rec'd for IW, just got PQ'd yesterday. In an email from the fleet processor, I was told to expect the FS letter in 6-8 weeks.

Were you an FY12 select or FY12 Alt/FY13 Select? I think IW had 4 FY12 and 12 FY13 pro-recs?
I'm also waiting on a FS. I was pro-rec'ed for IP on the same board as you, I was PQ'ed about 2 weeks ago and spoke with the Flt Processor recently and got the impression that it could be as late as the end of the year (or maybe even later) before I get a FS/class date... (I was FY12 Alt/FY13 Select).
Best of luck to you!
If I make sure that the optometrist's depth perception test is like the Navy's and the standards are met, would I be good to go or possibly not?
They should just charge people for retesting at MEPS. Then, the extra expense would be a non-issue while the serious folk get a second opinion/chance.
I'm sorry if I'm belaboring this issue, but I'm just trying to arm myself with as much information as possible.
Today I decided to try the AFVT test. You'd think working in Optometry I'd know how to administer this test, but honestly the AFVT depth perception test is not that accurate. In our clinic we use the randot fly test. It's easier to pass than the AFVT. I failed the depth perception test with the AFVT.
I went and had a discussion afterwards with Aviation Medicine, and sure enough, they use the randot Fly test as well. Hopefully everyone's regional MEPS doesn't use this test. I feel as though it's inaccurate, but I have no idea what NAMI mandated acceptable. I do know on the 2808 flight physicals that get done, you can administer the AFVT, randot fly test, and some other one, and they're all acceptable. If you fail the Randot Fly test though, and you're not anywhere close to 40" just forget about trying.
I really hope this helps clear some things up about depth perception. There's lots of confusion on what's acceptable for vision requirements for Aviation. I have some knowledge, and I work with Aviation Optometrists, so I can get your answers if I don't know them already.
